RE: [LegacyUG] Marriage Records - Volume & Page Number
Sorry to say divorce is all to common in the U.S. Our divorce records actually give additional information such as the original marriage date, and the number of children, and sometimes this really helps with the research, so even due to some being listed as "living", I'd like these in my database for my research. Marriage announcements/engagements are common in some newspapers. I've actually found a couple that are from the 1950's, it's interesting to read who was present etc. as was common to publish then, so really want to include them, hadn't even considered the later ones. I've been entering each of these as a Marriage event, but could be just added to the Marriage notes section. I don't include the Vol and Page numbers other than in the Source, but information pertaining to the Marriage - such as the officiating cleric, witnesses, whether or not the parties signed or marked, etc - I enter in Marriage Notes and always opt to have these included on Reports. It's easy to think there is plenty of room to add more fields to the existing ones which everyone uses, but where do you draw the line? You would like the Register or Index details, someone else will want the witnesses, someone else will want the cleric's/Registrar's name etc. I think it is perfectly satisfactory that we have a Marriage Notes field for all this additional optional information. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp

I wouldn't consider it an "event". My choice would be to put that in the Marriage Notes.
