Re: [LegacyUG] Read Receipt for Message
Probably done accidentally but it is a good way to harvest EMail addresses by collecting all the Read Receipts to indicate live accounts. Not a big deal. I was able to turn it off but as you said I usually just cancel them because I figure the person probably doesn't realize they have it turned on until they receive a ton of read receipts. -Original Message- From: k...@legacyfamilytree.com [mailto:k...@legacyfamilytree.com]on Behalf Of Laurie Nelson Sent: Sunday, November 01, 2009 7:06 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Read Receipt for Message Bill, I'm one of the users who requests read receipts. Re: [LegacyUG] Read Receipt for Message
I get the "receipt requested" e-mails, sigh heavily and answer. I wish people would not ask, though. My sister sends stuff to me from work and her messages ask all the time. It is possible to continue anyway, but if you open the message again, you get the request again. (I do not use Outlook, but SeaMonkey). RE: [LegacyUG] Read Receipt for Message
I found it and turned it off in my old version of Outlook. Sorry to be a pain in the rear, but as was said it's also a way for spammers to find live email addresses. I have enough problems with my computer as it is and don't need any help to make it any slower. Re: [LegacyUG] Read Receipt for Message
I have always assumed most of these folk were required in business, to run the receipt, and forget it is running in the background. It seems to come up about 2-3 times a year, and is self monitored. Some newbies may see the message to someone else, and turn theirs off in advance. And when the sender recieves hundreds of requests to turn it off, it normally works.
