Re: [LegacyUG] exporting made more people??

I think I had this problem once and the extras turned out to be AKAs.
Have you got 2 AKAs in the list?

Dee,

Another thought after thinking on this overnight, have you considered using
Legacy's own Split Screen and looking at the List side-by-side?

Dee,

Have you by any chance thought of using GenMatcher to compare the two files.
I find this program great in this area, as you can even compare a Legacy FDB
file and a GEDCOM file side by side. If you don't have GenMatcher, you can
send me the files and I will compare them for you if you want. I'll delete
the files when finished. I'm sure Sherry (from Legacy Support) will back up
a fellow beta tester.

Okay, I compared the lists. Here are all the steps. I started with a file
called Gagliardi line. In the name list, it says it has 253 people. I
exported it to a Legacy File on my own computer. I told it choose all
records, export private people, keep the original ID #'s, formate names nad
palces, export general To Do's, exclude LDS info. I told it Don't Assign a
Source. The new file is called Export Gagliardi. Its Name List says it has
255 people in it. BUT, when I compare them, they have exactly the same
RIN's. Now there's a mystery! Why does it say there are two more in the
new file?? It would really be good to understand this.

I tried it again, not excluding LDS info or private info, etc., and got the
same results -- always two extra people supposedly in the file. I counted
and compared twice, with the files side by side, on a split screen, going
down one by one. I was pretty careful, though I can't say I'm perfect.

The reason for the export is to go on to export another file into it and
make a combined file. But I want to be sure I have the complete info and no
extras. Help (small whimper)??

I am confused. Check the Marriage list totals for
each. Look at the marriage list for phantom spouses.
These are unknown people that may be accidently added
to a specific marriage record for various reasons. If
the marriage lists match, then the choice is to make
hard copies of the individual lists, and cross them
off one at a time. I hope this helps.

Slow but easiest. For each go to 'Name List', at the

Dee,

I suppose you'll have to just plug through the list as some of the listers
have suggested. A lot of times a user will look at the last RIN in the Name
List and make a wrong assumption about the number of individuals in a Family
File because there are abandoned RINs.

I exported my file of 253 people to a new file. It now has 255 people.
Why? How do I find out who was added? Sorry for the probably basic
questions, but I am out of town without my CD's.

Re: [LegacyUG] exporting made more people??

2007-03-14 Thread Dee

Does this happen to anyone else? Every time I try to export my file to
start a new file with a different name on the same computer, it adds a
couple of names to the name list. Therefore, I have never been able to move
forward with combining my separated family files. Yes, I guess I can print
the name lists of the new and old files and compare, but it also seems worth
reporting such a glitch. If there is something I need to learn, please pass
it on!

Hi Dee,

You don't say how you are exporting the file. I assume you are
exporting a tagged group. Are you leaving any of parents, children,
spouses of tagged people ticked? This could account for extra people.

Re: [LegacyUG] exporting made more people??

2007-03-14 Thread Dee

Dee

RE: [LegacyUG] exporting made more people??

2007-03-14 Thread Geoff Rasmussen
Dee,

In the past, I remember Ken McGinnis mentioning that sometimes these counts
will be off because of something to do with the Access database upon which
the Legacy family file is built. Doing a File Maintenance will correct the
differing counts, but there aren't any problems with extra people, or people
getting left out. It's just the count that sometimes needs to be corrected
using either File Maintenance or exporting to a new family file. Hope that
helps some

Re: [LegacyUG] exporting made more people or found missing persons

2007-03-14 Thread Richard Van Wasshnova

Dee,

I'm pretty sure your extra persons in your new file were actually 2 missing
persons from your original file. I suspect two individuals named unknown
was not getting tallied by Legacy in original but are counted in the new
file.

In (New File) Name List type Unknown in Given, Does any Unknown come up
with a RIN? Try again in Surname field?

In Marr List set cursor in Husband field and scroll to top of list. Any
Unknown there? Do same in Wife field. These Unknowns here may not have

a RIN.

The reason for the export is to go on to export another file into it

info and no extras. Help (small whimper)??
