Ellen, to get into New Familysearch for now you have to be LDS and set
up an account on that site, using membership number and other personal
data. Almost all of the areas of the world except parts of Utah have
access and the rest of Utah should be on soon. Sometime in the future,
it appears, non-members will have access, undoubtedly as read only.
Even when Legacy can sync, you wouldn't be able to access without your
own account.

It is set up as a pedigree and family group system, so submitters are
only entering their own family info, each new addition has to be
connected as a child. spouse or parent to a previous one.

RE: [LegacyUG] Family Search

2009-10-30 Thread Sherry/Support
Legacy never uploads anything to the internet without the user initiating
the act.

Access to newFamilySearch is not available in Legacy at this time. Even
when it will be, the user will have to direct Legacy to upload the files to
nFS.

You can search the IGI (Search Search the IGI Website), where Legacy will
look for possible matches and then show you a list to compare and select
what you want to incorporate into your Family File and you can use Search
Search the Internet for Current Person, which will take you to the website
using the search criteria.

Thanks for using Legacy.

There are still changes being made to New Family Search so we have
been advised not to enter sources for now. They still can't promise
that they will not be affected by the changes. When we can sync up
our Legacy database, lt will be an easy matter to transfer sources
over, an expert tells me. I imagine the Family History Center

Right, I made a mistake the other day... I modified the Family Search string
instead of ADDING a new one. Now I'm unable to figure out the search string.

Can one of you provide me with the search string again please.

Thank you,
Paul Croteau

The search string for FamilySearchLabs works great though...

Try this search string (remember, no spaces):

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=1;toYear=[DeathYear];searchType=standard;year=[BirthYear];surname=[SurName];givenName=[GivenNames]

Use default Data Prep field:
[ ]=[%20]

Thanks for your reply. Usually, when familysearch is unavailable, I
get an apology page!
This morning, both sites (ancestry.co.uk and familysearch.org) are up
again. It just seemed unusual that both should go down at the same
time!
