Re: [LegacyUG] Non-existent Locations

2009-03-25 Thread Chick Lewis
Ron,

Thanks. My concern is that if I purge them and they are in the
database someplace, like a note, will that address be deleted from the
note? For instance, I have a location that reads 613 Grand St but is
not shown connected to any individual. I used the find and replace
feature of FTM16 and found that is the birth place of an ancestor and
is mentioned in his notes. I confirmed that it does exist in the
notes section in Legacy. My question is will that address be deleted
from the notes? I have many bad addresses like this that
transferred in from FTM. The purge unused location options is not
selective and since I don't know where they are all located I am
concerned that if I purge them and get rid of them I may remove
important info.

 Lew,

If I understand you correctly, those empty locations are dead, and can arise
through various means, eg. the person was deleted, that particular location
was amended (this may just be a spelling correction).

I simply do not understand what you mean by find out where they are.

If you go to ViewMaster ListsLocations, on the right-hand side, click
OptionsPurge Unused and get rid of them.

In the Master Location list I have several entries (addresses etc)that
don't show any people using that location. How can I find where they
 are?

Lew,

OK, got you! No, the reference will not be deleted from your notes. The
Locations link only to Events (including BMD), hence if a Location is no longer
associated with an Event then it is shown as empty.

It does not affect anything else, whether you leave it or not.

Thanks again, Ron. It worked OK. Apparently only the link to Virtual
Earth is removed... No changes are made to the actual database.

Thanks, Dennis but... If the reference could not be found in the main
file, then it would not be found in the back-up either. Legacy's
search and replace function will find the reference but it don't tell
you where it is.
