I don't very often have to print a Report, but the one I preview on
screen most is the Individual Report. In fact, I use this so much that
I have an icon for it on my Menu Bar.

I find the Individual Report is the best way to check what information I
have for that person, what is missing, what is incorrect, where
formatting needs changing, etc.

I don't use Marriage Events for facts/events which relate to the
Family (which may or may not include children) but only for
facts/events which relate specifically to the marriage, such as
honeymoon, separation, divorce.

For this reason I do think it is a lack that Marriage Events are not
included on an Individual Report because if one sees, for example, that
a person had more than one spouse it would be good to know whether they
were divorced or widowed. This sort of Marriage Event is an important
aspect of an individual's life, after all.

Although I am happy to repeat such Family Events as Residence, Census
and so on, it doesn't seem logical to me to enter specifically Marriage
Events individually for each partner.

RE: [LegacyUG] Reason to Print An Individual Report

2009-01-31 Thread Martin Briscoe
I probably use Individual Report more than any other.

I have several thousand names in my file. I often get queries through
Ancestry or GenesReunited about someone in my tree. There is no point is
sending the whole file to the person because it will be a large file and
possibly overwhelm them if they are only just starting out. So I tag a few
generations around the person that they are enquiring about then export an
Individual Report as a PDF file. I don't use Ancestor or Descendant because
I will often want to give more detail on people who would not be included in
one of these reports. I sometimes export a couple of charts from that area
and include them in the PDF file.

I could probably give the same information with a series of Ancestor and
Descendant Reports but there would be a lot of duplication.

2009-01-31 Thread Janis L Gilmore
I don't put any events in the marriage - just marriage, divorce. My reason
has nothing to do with reports, though - I just like to see everything when
I am looking at the individual screen, rather than having bits of info
scattered about.

I would actually prefer to have the marriage itself more incorporated into
the individual screen. The individual screen of TMG is the only thing I
still miss a bit, although I much prefer Legacy. The TMG individual screen
is a little like our chronology page, except that it is directly editable
(not just editable through the pop-up of the individual screen).

I'm with Jenny on this. The Individual Report easily provides me with a
timeline for the person, and helps guide further research. It along with the
Family Group Sheet, and Descendant Book report, are the 3 reports I use the
most.

The only thing I put under Marriage is the marriage. It makes no sense to me
to record things like Census or Residence as a Marriage Event but to each his
own: that is the beauty of Legacy.

I mainly print individual reports b/c it seems to be the only report where
relationships to mother and father show up properly sourced. There is a bug
causing them to show up incorrectly in some instances on the family group
sheet. It looks better than a family group sheet does for a person who never
married. It's also a good report to show a blended family on one sheet. If the
individual married twice, you can see in one place his first spouse and kids
and his second spouse and kids.

I look at at it differently. An individual report is for everyone from the
date of birth until they get married. It includes all childhood info,
residences, schools and church attended, friends, pets, hobbies, clubs,
jobs, etc. If you never get married or die at an early age, this is where
your information is found. When you marry, you are now a family member and
info is added accordingly. Just my thoughts.

Hi Cathy
The way I see it, an INDIVIDUAL report is just that a report on the
individual and should not include family events that's the job of the
FAMILY REPORT. Individual reports only need to mention that the subject
was married. I have always included Family residence in marriage events,
also holidays, and in one case were the where the parents went back to
High School in later life.
