Re: [LegacyUG] Labels on Family view

2010-07-20 Thread Noddie
Hi Mike
Thanks for that. I have tried all possible things. I am sure it was
not like that in the older version.
I also could not find anywhere to change the background of the labels
on the Family view.

Re: [LegacyUG] ... Seeking Charting/Presention Guidance ... Jim Hughes

2010-07-20 Thread Jim Hughes
Kathy Meyer ...

Have a fine day ...

General Stuff ... I switched To Legacy from Family Tree Maker, after using
Family Tree Maker
for many years. It was Legacy graphs/reports/charts that swung the move. I
am a
'so so' genealogical researcher, but, do require the facts before I enter
such as 'tree entry.'

My goal is to present my family roots in a manner that all will understand &
enjoy. I want young &
old to view their roots as people, their people, not cold charting symbols.
Legacy provides
the 'cold facts' while 'other, off topic stuff' turns those facts into
something like watching a
movie. ProShow Gold is a vehicle that I use to achieve my goal.

I am not aware of a "layer & peel" feature in Legacy. Such I can
accomplish within ProShow Gold.

Legacy Stuff ... provides: data; assembled in graphs/reports/charts; and
authenticity. Legacy does not provide the glitz, cheer, reason-to-watch via
their
graphs/reports/charts.

Legacy User Group ... provided guidance, ideas, and direction relative to
Legacy
that I needed before I could think about a ProShow Gold
solution/presentation.
Thank you Legacy User Group.

I did not want to contaminate the Legacy User Group with 'off topic'
material
but, I did require their direction.

Winner ... me, as I received more than enough of what I desired.

Loser ... I hope, no one. I hope I did not violate the Legacy User Group
code of operation.

Thanks, Legacy User Group.

2010-07-20 Thread Kathy Meyer
Is the reference to "layer & peel" something that exists in Legacy or
something that you are thinking would be a nice upgrade to Legacy? I
haven't used charting much at all and am very interested in reading
all of your comments; including the "off topic" ones relating to your
use of other programs. Just because this is a legacy list, doesn't
mean that we aren't interested in how it can be used in other
applications to enhance our work and present it to others;
particularly when Legacy doesn't provide that particular ability. I
wouldn't necessarily sign up for a list that discussed the other
program that was mentioned because I wouldn't even know it existed
except that you mentioned it here; I hope people aren't discouraged
from posting enlightening ideas on this group because it is very
helpful to 99% of us. For instance, I'm sure the legacy charts &
reports are what are being posted in this presentation that was
mentioned; why wouldn't the rest of us want to know how to achieve
that for our next family reunion?

Thanks! Kathy

Now this one is going to be a conundrum! Nowhere, in the Legacy Colours
panel within the Customisation dialog, is there any sign of the ability
to change the background of the items on the menu bar. The only way that
I know of doing this is from the Windows Control Panel applet.

Have you tried shutting the machine down and restarting it?

Re: [LegacyUG] How to show (compactly) descent from medieval ancestors?

2010-07-20 Thread John & Elizabeth Pethybridge
Yippi -There are others with the same issue as I have of multiple lines &
links within generations.
I believe there is a need for Legacy to be able to Tag Ancestors, then
without exporting to a File in order to do a Descendant Report.
Thus there should be a choice to do a Descendant Report on a Focus Group of
Tag X (Ancestor Tag as above). Please, Please.

Hi Dolly,

Export to Legacy file all ancestors of #1.
Open that new file and print (or whatever) all descendants of #10177.
I think that should work.
