Thank you, Alan and Mary. I think I will do the conversions in the

I am sorry that I don't know how to respond to the proper thread. I didn't get
any of the responses in my email to just hit "reply", so I had to go to the

Thank you for the ideas. I still would like to be able to see the children's

different options!

Seems to me that using the GEO location database would produce a standardized

Re: [LegacyUG] Correct location format question

2012-03-03 Thread Sherry/Support
Bill,

The correct entry is:

Duvall, King, Washington, United States

"county" should be added only if you don't know the town, i.e.,:

, King county, Washington, United States

United States is the format the LDS church uses - not USA.
Abbreviations should be avoided to prevent confusion.

I live in Redmond, Washington, and if I abbreviate it Redmond, WA,
someone may interpret that as Redmond, Western Australia .

Locations should be edited using the Master Location List (View >
Master Lists). In that list, go to Options > Expand/Contract Location
Parts to add or change the country name.

If you want to remove "county", go to Search > Search and Replace and
using Lists-Location, enter

county, (space) for "Find what"

leave the Replacement text blank.

Search anywhere in field and replace only found text for the other options.

Standards for location entry can be found in the book "Getting It
Right" by Mary Slawson.

Sherry

RE: [LegacyUG] Correct location format question

2012-03-03 Thread Michele Lewis
This is such a hot topic!

If you are trying to conform to FHL standards then

Duvall, King, Washington, United States

You can contract your locations to get rid of the word COUNTY in all of your
entries.

While on the Master Location List page
Go to OPTIONS
Then EXPAND/CONTRACT LOCATION PARTS

If you click on CONTRACT LONG LOCATION NAMES it will take the word COUNTY out
of your locations

You can also add USA, or add United States or remove both on this screen

Paula,

The option to include page total is designed to work when batch printing
a group of FGS reports. (Everyone in the file, a Family plus the
children's families, an entire set of ancestors or descendants etc.)

The initial 1 in the 1 (1 of N) is for the page within the whole batch,
that number will increase for every page in the entire report. The (1 of
N) will count the pages for each FGS within the batch. It starts over at
one when the family group changes.

If you have sources at the end of all reports the page numbering for the
source pages will not have the (1 of N) because you are no longer in any
FGS. The problem report in our system is for the case where you want
source pages after each FGS. In that case the (1 of N) should continue
through the source pages for the FGS but it does not.

that's who was showing up in the list.  Thanks.

I have 25 trees in my file at the moment.

Don't forget that the Tree Finder lists the individual in each tree with
the SMALLEST RIN.  That might not be the person you're expecting to see,
so take a closer look.  Who is your "candidate" linked to - is one of
them the person with the smallest RIN and listed at Tree Finder?

And always click on Refresh when you open Tree Finder before looking at
what is listed there.

Hope this helps.  :-)

[LegacyUG] Adding children's birth places to family view

2012-03-03 Thread unique64 Riley
Is is possible to view the children's birth places in the family view screen
across from there names? It would be so handy to see them all at once to
determine the family's locations at different times instead of having to go and
view a Family Group Record. It I set the columns to show only 5 children, it
would fit across.

Thanks,

RE: [LegacyUG] MRIN filing

2012-03-03 Thread Charles Apple
Paula,

I leave all documents for children in their Parents Folder, however, when and
if a child marries I move only the documents that pertain to that particular
child to his or her folder. I sure that there are other ways preferred by other
researchers, however, this method has worked well for me for many years. In the
end, I really think it is personal preference.

2012-03-03 Thread Paula Ryburn
Replicated!
I have the box RINs & MRINs checked. (the "& MRINs" appears to affect nothing)
If I also check the box MRIN numbers, the they show up for the marriages in the
body of the report, in little characters with the source citation numbers.

OH I see it: Look on the main page for the FGR just above the Title box:
"Add MRIN to title." I think this is new, though.

I cannot replicate this. Check the Header wording on the report screen.
Do you see [MRIN] in the text of the Title? If that is missing then the
MRINs will not be included in the Title of the report. To add the [MRIN]

I've received no response to the message below so will repost. Can anyone
replicate this anomaly? Do I need to reinstall?

In addition to the issue below - I have used previously Verdana 10 or 11
which worked well. Now they show up on the screen so huge the info won't
fit. When I reset the size goes back to 6. The data is smaller but still too
large for the screen. If I exit Legacy the size is correct on the screen but
6 is too small to read. I will report the MRIN issue separately.

Using 7.5.0.154 - Downloaded today (1 March)

This is another of my "am I going crazy" moments - rare since the earliest
versions.

I have attempted to change screen fonts 3 times with no success. Select
font and size and save - but the size won't stick. For instance I select
Verdana 11 and save. Open screen fonts again and the Verdana has stuck but
the size has reverted to 6. Have reset, done check and repair with no
success. Fonts stick for reports.

I have MRINs selected on the Report Options but they don't appear on the
report.

Anyone else having these issues?

Thanks,
Kay

The C:\Legacy\Geo folder can be copied to another computer without re-building
it from the internet downloads. Once in place on the hard drive, then go to
Options>Customize>Other>Geo Location Database and click "Database Maintenance".
Then click "Set" and navigate to where you put the GeoDB.gdb file. That will
connect the file to Legacy and should work.

[LegacyUG] Tree finder - maximum ?

However, one of these two is missing from the list. Is it possible the Tree

I have seen the heading "Children" followed by a blank line (I have the page

I do not see blank place after 8th child of 8 children... goes right into the
father's General Notes. (That's with children's Events either on or off.)
(There does seem to be a blank line added after wife's General Notes, before
Sources (where Sources do not start on new page). Okay, so that is off
topic...)

Fw: [LegacyUG] 7.5.0.154 - Problems with Screen Fonts and Report Options

2012-03-03 Thread Kay Fordham
I've received no response to the message below so will repost. Can anyone
replicate this anomaly? Do I need to reinstall?

In addition to the issue below - I have used previously Verdana 10 or 11
which worked well. Now they show up on the screen so huge the info won't
fit. When I reset the size goes back to 6. The data is smaller but still too
large for the screen. If I exit Legacy the size is correct on the screen but
6 is too small to read. I will report the MRIN issue separately.

Subject: [LegacyUG] 7.5.0.154 - Problems with Screen Fonts and Report
Options

Using 7.5.0.154 - Downloaded today (1 March)

This is another of my "am I going crazy" moments - rare since the earliest
versions.

I have attempted to change screen fonts 3 times with no success. Select
font and size and save - but the size won't stick. For instance I select
Verdana 11 and save. Open screen fonts again and the Verdana has stuck but
the size has reverted to 6. Have reset, done check and repair with no
success. Fonts stick for reports.

I have MRINs selected on the Report Options but they don't appear on the
report.

Anyone else having these issues?

Thanks,
Kay

That is already possible. When in the Index view, click Options. At the end of
each Field Name, there is a box containing three dots. Click on the box at the
end of the first empty Field Name. A list of Field Names to Display comes up.
Select Relationship from that list. It will be added to your list of Field
Names. You can move any Field Name up and down to any position you wish.

2012-03-03 Thread Paula Ryburn
I believe someone very knowledgeable here on the list once said you should
always import into a new/separate database to "see what you have" and then merge
what you want into your "real" database.

And thanks, Wendy, for pointing out the View >Tree Finder . found a
completely unlinked couple... they've been there since my import from FTM in
2004! ;)

You need to import that 7000-name GEDCOM file into Legacy, then work
with that file to extract the information you want. Say you call it
Cousin.fdb for talking about it here.

Do you know about Tree Finder in Legacy? View > Tree Finder. Be sure
to click on Refresh to update the tree list, as this is not done
automatically.
