RE: [LegacyUG] Does the size of screen annoy you while using Families for Legacy app?
The individual ToDo items are accessed from the Individual View in Families. Tap the Edit button if you want to add a ToDo item and there are none listed yet. The note taking thing was just a random little blurb within the thread; it was 'related' because the discussion was about Families and taking it to a repository to record the information found there. The person asked about note taking while at the library; good grief folks, we're all just trying to help each other, right? I'm guessing we should be 'note taking' right in Families - click on the individual and then go down to 'notes' and 'edit'. My phone (Iphone4s) supports speaking into the phone and it types what you say (if you speak clearly haha!) so I tested that out with the Families app in the Notes area and it worked really well! But then I really didn't want to be merging my Families file back to my original file so I'm not sure how to overcome that. That's probably why that whole 'non Legacy/non Families' subject came up perhaps? But if you are merging your files, that is perfect I wonder if one day they could update it so that you could merge ONLY the to do lists? That would be nice. Then you could record what you found and close your to do items right there and merge only that portion. Also, I haven't found where to access the Individual To Do items in Families; only the General To Dos? That is important as I have just started a new 'procedure' for this and am marking them in the Individual section; I will need to rethink this if it isn't accessible in Families. Either way, I'm loving the Families app more and more all the time; and I use it at home whenever I'm on my laptop because it's so easy! [LegacyUG] Link to mother only
I had a similar problem and the procedure I adopted was 1. Unlink the child from everyone. 2. Get to the child through the name list and make them the main person in the pedigree view. 3. Right-click the child and use Add Mother and then Link to an existing Person. Then select the Mother. This gives an new marriage for the mother, with no husband(or, strictly speaking, an unknown husband). There will be a marriage record but the father will show as unknown. You can then modify the marriage to say this couple never married, if you want. RE: [LegacyUG] Tagging
Ron, I think you have made my point far more eloquently. It is this fiddling around trying to find other ways of generating tags that led me to suggest more tags would be a better option. I only posted to the UG to see if there was a general feeling that more tags would be desirable. Based on feedback to this group I think the answer is no, so I'll drop the idea instead of making a suggested improvement. Alan Pereira From: Ron Taylor [mailto:doit4...@yahoo.com] Sent: 16 April 2012 13:45 To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Tagging Paul and others, Tags are indeed one of the powerful tools when using any database. Whenever I have something that I want to remain tagged, I create a Source record to describe that such as your example of knowing which individuals for whom you have acquired a will. Then, I can easily find everyone with that source and re-mark them with one of the tags. In this way, I have unlimited tags that can be stored such that certain sources become a permanent tag. One that I use often is a source that tells me if an individual is a participant in our family DNA project. Using that source, I can quickly re-tag all the DNA participants when I wish to report on them. One other way that I can remember a select group of individuals, is to save a focus group and then re-load that focus group to be used for re-tagging that group, etc. Hope these ideas will help you with your database operations. [LegacyUG] Source Pictures and Picture Gallery
I have realized (after checking the archives) that there is no way that a picture attached to source detail will appear in the individual's picture gallery unless it is also attached to an event. What do you do in the case of a birth where you have a certificate and use it as an attachment to the source of the birth? In other words, how do I get the birth cert to also appear in the picture gallery? Do I have to add it separately? Grateful your advice. Re: [LegacyUG] Source Pictures and Picture Gallery
Christine, If you want the birth certificate image to appear in the picture gallery you can attach it to the Birth. Click the button with the + sign beside the birth and select birth pictures from the drop down list. You can also use the Picture Centre to link a photo/image to the birth. Re: [LegacyUG] Event Pictures
Paula, The problem you reported has been tested and is confirmed. A report has been recorded in our problem tracking system so this can be fixed. It is valid to have the option available on the chart style Individual and FGS reports because in those reports the pictures for vital events are included when the event pictures are selected and other events are not selected.
