that I can run two PCs on one monitor!

An easier way to do this is with two monitors. You put Legacy on one and
the web site on the other. It works great.

Hi All

I'm hoping someone more knowledgable about Legacy can help.

I've been reading Geoff's book - the Official Unofficial Guide to Legacy -
and he suggests using the split screen option to browse a genealogy website
and then cut and paste into Legacy in the other window. I can get the
Legacy website in the window, but I can't get the URL address section to
show up so I can put in another website to look at.

Any idea how I can do this - I've searched the Help File and Users Manual
and haven't found anything obvious.

Many thanks.

When Geoff wrote his book the Legacy Home Tab had an address bar at the
top where you could input a URL. Since the book was drafted the Legacy
Home tab had the URL Address bar removed so Geoff's recommendation no
longer works. Now you will have to have Legacy open on one side of your
monitor an a web browser open on the other side to be able to copy and
paste from your web browser.

Re: [LegacyUG] Displaying URL window

2012-09-23 Thread Boyd Miller
Try this (it works in Windows XP, Windows 7 does it another way)
Open Legacy
Open your browser
Close all other programs you had opened
Right click on the task bar and choose "Tile windows vertically"
This will put Legacy on one side and your browser on the other. You
should then be able to copy and paste from one to the other.
When you have finished with the dual screen act, go to the Task bar and
"Undo tile"

Re: [LegacyUG] Displaying URL window

2012-09-23 Thread Margaret Turner
Jane,

I think what you have to do is open Legacy.
Up in the top right corner of the window (just left of the X to exit
you will see a square.
Click on that and resize your legacy window so it fits only half of
your monitor.

Open your browser, repeat the same operation to resize the window so
it fits in the other half of your monitor.

This is an image of one of my monitors with half Legacy and half
browser (I use Chrome).

Hope this is what you want to do?

Re: [LegacyUG] Displaying URL window

2012-09-23 Thread JLB
Not really but maybe.

Somehow you've got Legacy opened across half of your browser so you
can't see the address bar? Maybe we're having a language problem.

Ok let's back up the train. I personally would not split a screen using
Legacy on both halves for this purpose. What I would do is drag the
handles on the edge of my Legacy database so it takes up half the
monitor. Then I would open my browser and do the same thing for the
other half. If you're using W7 you don't have to drag the handles. Just
drag one screen left and drop it and the other screen right and drop it
and they'll automatically split the monitor in half.

I did not even know there was an address bar on the Legacy home page.
First of all, they use Internet Explorer that I absolutely can't stand
so it's not even an option even if I did know it was there.

Anyway, try that. You can certainly split a wide screen monitor to fit
two screens. Aha! Perhaps the problem is your browser becomes too narrow
to see the address bar??

OK, I'm on my knees. Please tell me that I'm even remotely close to what
you're talking about.

Hi

I'm only working on one monitor.  In the article Geoff stated that you could
change the Legacy view to 'split view' and then use one of the window splits to
access the internet.  I can get the Legacy home page in this but can't navigate

Does that make the issue any clearer?

Richard,

Yes if you know some HTML or purchase LTools. There are potential problems
with using non-standard (from the web point if view) fonts, and this is not
the forum for discussing the ins and outs of webpage coding. I would suggest
that you submit the question to WUL, which is aimed at Legacy webpage
creation: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL/

I mean can I choose from various styles, ie. Times New Roman, Garmond,

Re: [LegacyUG] Displaingy URL window

2012-09-23 Thread JLB
I'm trying to picture this and it sounds like it doesn't have anything
to do with Legacy. Your browser won't go to another URL? Can you see
your browser? Are you working with one monitor or two?

[LegacyUG] Legacy won't open

2012-09-23 Thread Richard Falzini
I was working on my genealogy last night and all was well.

Today, I clicked my legacy icon, and the program opened but I could not see any
names, pictures, etc.

What do I do???

Do I attempt a file restore?

Please advise Thanks

[LegacyUG] Web Sites With Legacy

2012-09-23 Thread Richard Falzini
Hi I have been building my website with legacy, however what I want to ask is
when you create your page is there a way to alter the text?

I mean can I choose from various styles, ie. Times New Roman, Garmond, Verdana,
etc?

I appreciate any and all suggestions regarding this matter.

Thanks

Rich

[LegacyUG] Displaingy URL window

2012-09-23 Thread Jane Colquhoun
Hi All

I'mhoping someone more knowledgable about Legacy can help.

I've been reading Geoff's book - the Official Unofficial Guide to Legacy - and
he suggests using the split screen option to browse a genealogy website and
then cut and paste into Legacy in the other window.   I can get the Legacy
website in the window, but I can't get the URL address section to show up so I
can put in another website to look at.
Any idea how I can do this - I've searched the Help File and Users Manual  and
haven't found anything obvious.

Many thanks.

My method will not sort individuals, only the Location List, which can be used
to display those who live there. The difficulty with using the Detailed Search
is that it produces a Name list, which is difficult, if not impossible, to sort
in a place order. One other thing, we are both assuming that Jane means the
Location List, she could equally mean the Address List.

If you are looking for individuals with an event in Clay County, IL then try
the following:

Click on Search>Find. You will see six tabs across the top of the window that
opens. Click on Detailed Search. Then select Individual in Search for Whom?
In Where to Look select Event-Place. In How to look select Contains and in
What to look for type Clay County, IL. Make sure that the second condition is
NOT selected and click on Create list near the bottom of the window.

This should give you the list you want. Follow Ron’s instructions to sort your
list.

I must be missing something. I click on "search" and get "Find". I click on
that but I do not get a box in which to enter what I am searching for. I just
downloaded the latest version.

I am looking for any person who has any entry for "Clay County, IL". My Master
Location list finds some, but I must have messed up entering the locations
because I cannot get it to sort by "State". When I ask it to do so, it still is
sorted by County name.

I feel like I started with Legacy yesterday, instead of year ago.

2012-09-23 Thread Ron Ferguson
Jane,

>From what you have written I do not really know what you are trying to do,
or at least the method by which you intend to achieve your end.

So I will content myself with the sorting of the Master Locations List. Go
to: View>Master Lists>Locations, check the box next to the Sort Button, then
click the button, you are then given the option to sort as you wish - don't
forget to change it back, if necessary.
