Re: [LegacyUG] Future updates
AMEN -Original Message- From: Ellen Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2012 1:07 AM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Future updates Legacy is amazing as it is, but it would be great to have a new look. I just hope it's basically the same as now and not cluttered like FTM or Root Magic. The last person on my team of family researchers just got Legacy. I was hoping she would wait till version 8 came out, but she got it a few weeks ago. She got the whole thing with training CDs too. EVERYONE in the family who is working on this with me has now left FTM. They all LOVE Legacy and are amazed at the features. I have been with Legacy the longest and there are more who will probably begin using it over time who are not on my working team. We are trying to do a book series for over 20,000 people for the first time in 40 years. As we proofread and things, everyone is finding different things that need to be adjusted. As I talk them through it (even when not at my computer), they are thrilled at how easy it is to delete unknown spouses in order to mark someone as never having married and such. They all have told me that they will never switch back to FTM after having used Legacy for a number of months. There is so much good in Legacy that I cannot imagine them messing it up. Other programs don't seem as open to hearing from their users and keep coming out with new versions instead of free fixes in updates that I know it is a matter of time before Legacy is #1. I reviewed all programs every time that Legacy came out with each of the last 3 version and I still found Legacy to be superior overall. Thank you, Legacy team and Geoff. I do think that with the advancements by other genealogy programs (most recently Ancestral Quest and RootsMagic), it would be nice to have some general idea regarding a newer version of Legacy. I think we all know that something is in the works - It would not require a date certain and it would not require the list of features, but it would be nice to know if we can expect something in the near or far future OR if we should be looking at other programs. I appreciate the great features in Legacy and realize that we have had some features that others are just now getting BUT there were some very interesting features introduced by others. I would like to know if Legacy is going in that direction or if I need to spend some time playing with other programs to get features that would be helpful to my research and publishing. There is a lot out there and we do know that these programs all try to provide the bells and whistles. I think this is a simple request - are significant improvements in the works or not? And if there is not something concrete in the pipeline now that pretty much answers my question. You keep saying the release of version 7 was a problem - again, many of us disagree with your assessment. I mean no disrepect, but everytime someone asks a question along this line, you send the exact same response word for word. I beg to differ. The release of version 7 was a shambles. Millennia made the mistake of raising expectations and then couldn't deliver on the several dates that they proposed. This led to a furore within this group, with a lot of people just asking When, When, When and displaying a lack of patience because of their raised expectations. The correct way of handling future releases, and Millennia is not Apple or Microsoft, is not to make sound until there's something concrete in the pipeline. And even then, the announcement should only mention a date that can be met with 100% certainty. Until then... you'll just
[LegacyUG] Web Page Creation
Hello, I currently am having an issue with my web page creation... When I go to the web creation, and I click the link tab I have the option to make custom headers and custom footers. To make these you have to apply some basic html which I know how to do. But, when I have the html codes in place and I generate my new page and then preview it in my browser my new headers and footers do not appear? Can some one tell me am I missing a step in doing this? I would greatly appreciate any help regarding this subject Thanks Rich in Cleveland Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). Yes I have checked the boxes, and in the header I tried to place HTML for a Facebook app, and in the footer I tried to place HTML for a legacy banner. I then tried to create a new version of my site. When I previewed it, the newly added HTML was not there. Thanks, Rich. I am on my tablet at the moment, having switched my PC off - it's 12:30am here so just off to bed.
