[LegacyUG] Strange behaviour

2013-05-14 Thread Tony Rolfe
Brian

It absolutely has to be a bug because it only happens to the first entry
in the list.

If this is the expected behaviour then it is a bug that it doesn't
happen on other entries.

If the other entries' behaviour is expected, it is a bug because that
doesn't happen on the first entry.

Somewhere there is a bug.

Tony

RE: [LegacyUG] Ordering Social Security records

2013-05-14 Thread Bobby Johnson
Kathy,

I haven't seen an answer to your question yet so I will give it a try. If by
“Social Security Records” you mean the SSDI, here is what I use to find people
who might have been eligible. This will get you a reasonable list.

Be advised that SS did not start using a computerized database until the early
1960's. 1962 I think. Some but not all who died between 1935 and 1962 will be
included. Also if you were self-employed such as farmers etc., SS was not
available until 1951.

Here is the search parameters:

Look for Whom? - Individual

Where to look - Birth Date

How to look - After

What to look for - 1873 (Possibly earlier)

And

Look for Whom? - Individual

Where to look - Death Date

How to look - After

What to look for - 1935

And

Look for Whom? - Individual

Where to look - Living

How to look - Equal To

What to look for - No

In the event you have already sourced some of these you may eliminate them by:

Look for Whom? - Individual

Where to look - Source-Master Source

How to look - Contains

What to look for - (key word in your Master Source such as SSDI)

Clear List before this search

Untag (use same tag number as you used above)

Happy hunting,

Bobby

Subject: [LegacyUG] Ordering Social Security records

Does anyone have a successful way to search records to come up with a list of
people who would be good prospects for ordering their Social Security records?

I know they would have had to have died after 1936. I'm not sure if women
registered or not or if everyone registered or if it was just a random thing
for registration. I don't want to pay $29 just to find out the person never
applied for social security or registered with the system. They're not always
on the SSDI because if the family didn't apply for death benefits, they
wouldn't be on there.

Anyone have a good way to create such a list to consider? I tried but it was
too general - too big. I have the deluxe version.

Feel free to reply privately if you have any attachments to share that couldn't
be sent thru the list.

Thanks!! Kathy

Sounds like you may have discovered the easy workaround that people have been
looking for.

It will via gedcom import, which happened to me on three different people.
They had the incorrect sex in the gedcom file and were imported as such into
Legacy. They did show up on an error report.

If the gender is wrong in only one of the people, then they could not have been
joined in a marriage in the first place. Legacy will not permit it.

RE: [LegacyUG] gedcom error

Sounds like there may be some (hopefully minor) problem with your file. Have
you tried File -à File Maintenance -à Check/Repair?

This can fix a host of weird problems.

Subject: [LegacyUG] gedcom error

I was trying to create a gedcom for a cousin to use in another software program
and I keep getting errors. I haven't had this problem ever before. I chose
the 5.5 gedcom. After it exports 794 people, an error pops up that says
"Address not found". I clicked ok and it continued, and it went up to 1323
people and then did the same thing again. I clicked ok that time and then a
Error 3163 popped up. I looked up the error on the website and it said it was
because a backup zip file was too big. This is a gedcom, but I can't imaine it
was too big when it only hit 794 people.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Monique

Where a marriage exists (male+female) you can "Edit>Switch Husband and Wife",
even if there are children attached.  You do not need to detach either party
from the marriage or remove any children.

Legacy does not provide for same-gender couples.

On 13 May 2013 03:03, donvarn...@gmail.com wrote:

I don't believe you can change the gender if a marriage record exists or if
there are any children attached to the individual. In order to change genders
if this were the case you must first detach the person from the marriage or
remove any children.  Also keep in mind there cannot be two members of the same
sex attached to the a marriage record.
