Re: [LegacyUG] Picture center file name not matching actual file name

2013-09-05 Thread Paula Ryburn
Never mind.  Even though the file name looked okay in windows explorer, when I
copied it and renamed it (by using the right click menu instead of just
clicking on the name), everything worked just fine.  Apparently, there was some
extra invisible character at the beginning of the file name, that Legacy
displayed as a "?".  Weird, and hopefully unique.  Thx.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Picture center file name not matching actual file name

I had an image file that showed up in the Picture Center at the top of the
picture list with a file name beginning with "?" ...
?IL_Cook_1900  we'll call it for now.

I renamed the file there in the Picture Center to be IL_Cook_1900 (dropping the
"?")--I chose the Picture List tab on the right, and then the Rename button.
The file name popped down from the top to be among the other images beginning
with IL.

Then I discovered I had two files with the same file name... one with extension
.tif and one with extension .jpg.  I looked at both images and liked the .jpg
much better, so I deleted the .tif file (outside Legacy).  I ran "check media
paths" thinking I would need to re-link something, but it didn't show up... of
course not:  the image is not actually linked to a person, but to a master
source (that particular bug in the picture center can be deferred for now...).

I went into the Master Source list to attach the image to my Census source for
Illinois Cook County 1900 (I lump mine at the county level), and when I got
into the "add picture" part of the media tab, the new file name WAS NOT THERE!

I checked for the file itself in the C:\Legacy\Pictures folder, and it's there
with its new no-question-mark file name.

Then I went back into the Picture Center and (WHAT?!) it's back at the top with
a "?" at the beginning of the file name.

I exited Legacy, thinking maybe it needs to reload the image file names or
something... but that didn't work.

I tried renaming it again, and then going directly back into the Picture
Center... the "?" is back.

Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here?  I can't just rename it
outside of Legacy, because outside of Legacy the file actually has its new
name...!

Thanks in advance,

At the top of the page where it shows "Zoom", the drop-downs set the default.

I see that's not documented in the v7.5 Help file - I'll ask the
programmer to add it to the documentation. It is documented in v8's
Help file.

You might be better to start again and re-import from PAF. Just exclude
that field when you export to the Gedcom. That will be much easier than
mucking around within Legacy trying to delete these fields.

Did the data you wish to keep also have Custom ID numbers?  I assume you mean
UserID numbers.  If only the imported data had those UserID numbers, you could
select for UserID not equal blank and then delete them.  Same logic for the
description of individual you mentioned.  Unless you have something that
uniquely identifies the data you want to delete, it may be hard.  Perhaps you
added all the imported records with a RIN number higher than the records
already in your file.

To do some arcane sorting and family-building, a couple
months ago I exported part of a large database from PAF5 to
Legacy (free v).  The GED contained without my noticing it
in time to fix it before import data in the PAF fields for
description of individual and the AFN, as well as a Custom ID.

That is now causing me grief, as the description and the AFN
are in many of the reports Legacy creates ... and I can't
find them to delete the content IN Legacy. The information
is extraneous for my purpose here.  So, I took the database
over to the FHC to see if I could delete them there using
the paid v.  Still couldn't see them to delete.

So -- how do I get rid of these without having to edit the
output manually?

Re: [LegacyUG] What is the file for?

2013-09-05 Thread Paul Gray
Hi,

I posted a query about this the other day on the LegacyFSUserGroup. No real
answer was ever given.

To answer Jim Terry's question as far as my setup is concerned, I have
everything installed in the default Legacy configuration in C:\Legacy, except
that my legacy data folder is in a separate data partition on a drive P.

Not sure if it matters, but I do not have any legacy data in My Documents.

I found a few of them as follows:

http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/msg29911.html

http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/msg29910.html

There may be others.  I don't think the programmers have responded to this yet.
One of the basic principles that has been used for years is to have everything
in the C:\Legacy folder which is in the same place for all versions of Windows
whereas the My Documents folder location has changed with the newer versions of
Windows.

else.  I have always installed Legacy in the default C:\Legacy folder and yet I
now have those folders as you described.  They seem to have been created
8/15/2013 which probably corresponds to the public release 7.5.0.269 so the
prior public release 7.5.0.219 did not use those folders.  I agree with you
that all these new structures should be under the C:\Legacy folder unless the

Re: [LegacyUG] What is the file for?

2013-09-05 Thread Ron Taylor
Good question Michele.  I think I saw it raised a few days ago from someone
else.  I have always installed Legacy in the default C:\Legacy folder and yet I
now have those folders as you described.  They seem to have been created
8/15/2013 which probably corresponds to the public release 7.5.0.269 so the
prior public release 7.5.0.219 did not use those folders.  I agree with you
that all these new structures should be under the C:\Legacy folder unless the
user has chosen to install elsewhere.  I'll review some of the prior emails on
this and see if a satisfactory answer was ever given.

Michele,

I have a question, the answer which should tell me what happened. Where is
Legacy installed on your computer? Start Legacy and click on Help > General
Information and look at the Legacy Path field. What does it say?

[LegacyUG] What is the file for?

2013-09-05 Thread Michele Lewis
I just found a file in "My Documents" called "Legacy Family Tree." The sub
folder is "Legacy FS" and the sub folders to that are data, PDFs, Temple
Cards. There are also files called legacyfs, LegacyNFS, legsnews, store8.fsd
and WinSettings.

Why is the file folder in My Documents? I thought everything went in the
Legacy Folder.

Re: [LegacyUG] Intellimerge

2013-09-05 Thread Jay 1FamilyTree
Ron,

Will let you know if I hear back.

My understanding is that the Intellishare ID number is basically the
modified Date/Time number turned into something like a encrypted Key

So there really wouldnt be any need for the added or modified date as the
only real comparison you can make with intellishare is if the numbers are
different.
