RE: [LegacyUG] Backup Legacy

2013-11-08 Thread Rita Lynn McKale
Barbara,

I use Carbonite and love it. I emailed their customer support and asked
specifically how to back up Legacy and it is very simple…..select a file or
folder to be included in your backup, right-click the item and select ‘Back
this up’ from the Carbonite context menu.

Hope that helps.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Backup Legacy

I recently had my pc crash and thought for awhile I'd lost Legacy-all 13,000+
names, notes etc...also lost a few years off my life! I backup on Carbonite and
an external hard drive. I understood that Carbonite backed up everything
automatically but didn't! Evidently you have to 'adjust settings'. 'Did manage
to get my Legacy restored from the external hard drive. Legacy support also
suggested SkyDrive and Dropbox, neither of which I use. In a recent Family Tree
Magazine a site recommended was backupmytree.com

Would like feedback from anyone who uses Carbonite, SkyDrive, Dropbox and/or
backupmytree.com as to how you like it, ease of use, success in restoring files
etc.

 Thanks,

They have the same content although the Kindle version has been reformatted
to best support the Kindle's display so it is longer. We'd like to publish
everything to the Kindle and to PDF when possible.

JimS,
Try to read the original message carefully - the question asked was why the
letters showed up in the LUG messages. The question had absolutely nothing to
do with Legacy.

2013-11-08 Thread Karen and Jim
Doug,

Don't believe this has nothing to do with Legacy.

If you need to enter a word having a diacritical mark,
then Legacy must be able to store and present it
properly. That in turn means that your computer
must store and reproduce data with diacritical
marks. I've had to make certain adjustments
with my operating systems (OS) to be able to enter
words with diacritical marks in Legacy.

I've seen failure to display such with some programs,
as Brian pointed out below. I use diacritical marks
with Legacy and have experienced not problems
once I made necessary keyboard adjustments to my OS.

Re: [LegacyUG] Â Â Â

2013-11-08 Thread Karen and Jim
Doug,

This mark is called a "diacritical mark".
Many languages which use the Roman alphabet
also use diacritical marks to show how the
word is pronounced and/or the word's meaning.

Google "diacritic" to find more info.

[LegacyUG] Quick Guides

2013-11-08 Thread Dick Nixon
Maybe Support can sort this.

Legacy sells pdf Quick Guides in their store and Geoff says some Quick
Guides are available for Kindle. I assume the Kindle versions will
only be sold by Amazon. Right?

MacEntee has a "New York Genealogy-A Legacy Quick Guide" in both
places but the Kindle version claims "about" 32 pages and. There are
only 4 pages in the pdf...but I think Amazon counts page flips. The
price difference is 4 cents.

So...do the pdf version and the Kindle version have the same content?

What is Legacy's plan for Quick Guides in the future...will they be
pdf, Kindle, both, some of each?

I know you can read both on any device, but it would be nice to read
and organize them in the same app. Just saying.
