Thank you for that Wendy. I started to type out the details of a particular
person for you and realised that although there were 6 events there were no
entries in the date for the event. I put in a pretend date and it showed an age.

Sometimes all that is needed is asking for help, then doing something slowly
and thinking about it. Many thanks.

Hi June,

As far as I've observed, this column is filled automatically; it's not one you
can enter. Make sure your person has a date of birth entered, and there's a
date for the event - then Legacy has something to work with to calculate the
age.

If this is not the case, please tell us more about the situation you have in
front of you.

Hope this helps. :-)

Re: [LegacyUG] BD list (Birthday/anniversary list)

2014-06-13 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Bob,
That's a great idea. However, the only way you are going to get it at
present is to use a Descendant Chart Report, save to Text and edit.

Use the Format option to Pack information on one line and include
Marriage date and place.

If you don't want numbers preceding the names, use the None option for
the Numbering System

You'd need to edit to remove places and then add the age/anniversary number.
And probably add a line for the anniversaries.

[LegacyUG] Events not Printing [was: Can't get a list ...]

2014-06-13 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Ed,

1) New questions should be in a new topic.

For your problem - check the privacy status of the events that aren't
printing (or if you aren't aware of using privacy for some events, try
the Report after setting the Privacy options to print Private Events and
Private Master Events.
I'm assuming you don't mean that the Event Notes aren't printing. In
Legacy 8 in the Report Options - the Event section of What to include,
you need to tick Event Notes.

But media can be applied to things which are not directly related to people
such as Locations, Sources, Addresses and Temples. Those paths without a person
in the list using your method may be used by those media. I cannot comment on
why you say some lists are short or include the wrong people.

Have you used the scrapbook media listing report?
Reports > Other Reports > Scrapbook
That report can include media listings for Locations, Sources (Master and
Source Details), Addresses and Temples as well as individuals and marriages.
You can also choose the type of media files to be included in the listing.
The print media file list button will let you generate a report.

Re: [LegacyUG] Dates and potential problems

2014-06-13 Thread Brian/Support
The problem you reported below has been fixed and will be available in
the next update to Legacy 8.0. I do not know when that update will be
issued. You can check for updates by selecting the Legacy Home tab. The
updates section will tell you when a new update is available and, if you
have the deluxe version, allow you to update from within Legacy.
Standard version users will have to obtain the update from our web site.

If that is the case do your Ruth E. and Ruth Emma have the same husband

You could create a custom report for all the females, print to text, then pull
that into a spreadsheet, parse and sort.
Then use the built-in stats reports to count, or just eyeball it?

Re: [LegacyUG] BD list (Birthday/anniversary list)

2014-06-13 Thread Ron Taylor
This is how I would do this in Legacy 8.0.0.427
1) File>File Maintenance>Check/Repair
2) Options>Customize>Other Settings>12.4>Clear All User IDs
3) Find the RIN for the top of the descendants chart
4) Close Legacy
5) Run Ltools>Deluxe>Set Special User IDs and set these parameters
    Starting RIN: from step 3
    Starting number for Henry...: 1
Set "Fill descendant's User ID with text + Henry number
    Text: HN-
Exclude Non-Biological Relationships (check or uncheck as desired)
Click "Run" to have Henry numbers inserted into descendants of RIN from
step 3
When the routine finishes, it will show how many rows (individuals) were
affected.
The "Internal Log" file may report individuals that descend more than one
way.
    Close Ltools
6) Open Legacy
7) Search>Find>Detailed Search and set these parameters
    Look for whom? Individual
    Where to look:  User ID
    How to look:  Contains
    What to look for:  HN-
Set "Clear List before this search"
    Click "Create List"
8) The Search List will display those individuals with a Henry Number in User ID
9) Click "Print" then "Customize" as needed for the fields you want
10) Set "CSV" for the Report Destination then click "Create", give the CSV file
a name, then save
11) Open the CSV file in a spreadsheet, calculate additional info as needed,
sort, print.

Reports > Statistics Report includes a section on Given Names with lists of the
most popular given names overall (Top 10 list) and similar lists by time
period. By removing the check marks from all the other statistical categories
you can get a report of only those given name stats.

The Surnames are all stored in a single table (Master Surname List) so a
Surname report is easy. Given names are not in any table so they have to be
extracted from the Given Name field then divided into individual words, sorted
and counted to create those given name stats.

Re: [LegacyUG] Find Duplicates does not handle middle initials

2014-06-13 Thread Ward Walker
Cathy, thanks for taking the time to test this. I have been using the
default of 5, so that does not explain why I am discovering these missed
duplicates. Given your results, I will try to do a more controlled test,
myself, when I get a chance. I'm wondering if it is a quirk in the drag &
drop process, rather than in a global find-duplicates process. (I.e., I'm
dragging in descendants of an individual, where I already have some of these
descendants. The process starts with a merge of the individual, followed by
duplicate checking that is constrained to the imported descendants and
spouses.)

Hi Ward,

I just tried this by adding a Ruth E. and a Ruth Emma to the Sample file
in Legacy 8. I had to turn off the duplicate checking on entry at Option 2.1

With the default - check Given Names for a length of 5 - they were
presented as possible duplicates.
Increasing that to 7, they weren't presented, as expected as the names
aren't identical for 7 characters. Reduce the number to 6 and again they
are presented as possible duplicates.

So how many characters have you set as the criteria?

Re: [LegacyUG] Baby Names Summary Report

2014-06-13 Thread Brian/Support
Reports > Statistics Report includes a section on Given Names with lists
of the most popular given names overall (Top 10 list) and similar lists
by time period. By removing the check marks from all the other
statistical categories you can get a report of only those given name stats.

The Surnames are all stored in a single table (Master Surname List) so a
Surname report is easy. Given names are not in any table so they have to
be extracted from the Given Name field then divided into individual
words, sorted and counted to create those given name stats.

Re: [LegacyUG] Can't get a list of people using a media path

2014-06-13 Thread Brian/Support
But media can be applied to things which are not directly related to
people such as Locations, Sources, Addresses and Temples. Those paths
without a person in the list using your method may be used by those
media. I cannot comment on why you say some lists are short or include
the wrong people.

Have you used the scrapbook media listing report?
Reports > Other Reports > Scrapbook
That report can include media listings for Locations, Sources (Master
and Source Details), Addresses and Temples as well as individuals and
marriages. You can also choose the type of media files to be included in
the listing.
The print media file list button will let you generate a report.

Re: [LegacyUG] BD list (Birthday/anniversary list)

2014-06-13 Thread Brian/Support
This report is not available now and without access to MSAccess where
you could perhaps design a custom report I know of no easy way to create
it. Even in MS Access adding ages to the report would require
calculations that I am not sure can be done since they are two separate
things really (Anniversary age is assumed to be the years since the
marriage date while individual age is years since birth if known). The
number in that column would need programming to decide which calculation
to perform. In your suggestion you should say how you want the mixture
of anniversary and individual data to be sorted. Your reference to
indentation by generations implies a descendant organization which may
conflict with your tagged individual and marriage selection.

We are happy to consider suggestions for new features. In Legacy 6.0 and
7.0 you can suggest a new feature by clicking on the link on the Legacy
Home Tab Support Section

Other users can make a suggestion here:
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Suggest.asp

Use the drop down list in the first box to select a category, Legacy 7
or Legacy Charting.

Re: [LegacyUG] Can't get a list of people using a media path

2014-06-13 Thread Ron Taylor
Richard,
I know that you are an experienced Legacy user.  Have you tried
Ltools>Deluxe>Find Unattached Multimedia?  If you un-check "Only display
multimedia files that are unattached" then it will produce a list of all the
multimedia that have links to the database.  The script probably needs to be
changed to accomodate version 8 sourcing structures.

Same for most other lists.

For Locations you see list of people as soon as you select a location.

However for the" Media Folder List" the only way I can find to show users is
"Options > Delete > View List" which seems a bit risky.

Ignoring the risks though I'm not pleased with the results I'm getting.
Some paths show nobody using them, others come up short and wrong people.
I have 400 paths, (5 samples below)

[Default Media Folder]\Docs\Books\Bay_Settlement_of_Monroe_County\
[Default Media Folder]\Docs\Cemetery\Our_Lady_of_Hope\

[Default Media Folder]\Pictures\vanwasshnova\

https:\\familysearch.org\pal:\MM9.1.1\\

Does anyone else get good results? Is there another way to find who is using
any media path?
I know I could move or rename a directory and see who comes up in missing.txt
