RE: [LegacyUG] Possible glitch in programming

2015-06-16 Thread gregandlaurel
Hi Jenny, I have this exact same problem. I thought I had fixed the glitch
after trying several things – but in the last couple of days the issue is
back. In addition to the text glitch, the event pictures (in some
situations) are overlapping on top of each other. Quite a messy report
result. Laurel

2015-06-16 Thread Brian L. Lightfoot
I know exactly what you are describing and I've seen it in the past. Luckily I
haven't had it come up and bite me recently but I'm thinking it had something
to do with the Picture Size options or Picture Reduction Widths. I'll try some
destructive testing to see if I can duplicate the problem easily and then
figure out what alleviates it. Don't just wish the programmer's would
incorporate wrapping text around pictures then you wouldn't see all you typed
data pushed apart just to make room for a picture on the side?

I have a person in my file who has an Individual photo attached, a Birth
Picture attached and a picture attached to the first of their 2 Events.

When I create an Individual Report for this person the Birth details etc are
"pushed down the page" to accommodate the Individual photo, then the Baptism
details etc are "pushed down" to accommodate the Birth picture.
However, the 2nd Event is not pushed down to accommodate the photo attached to
the 1st Event so this photo overlaps the area of the 2nd Event and the family
details and a long line of text giving the Spouse's details runs over the
picture. If I opt for a Lined Report, the lines run across the Event Picture.

Could someone from Support please advise if this should be reported as a bug?

I just double-checked and created a family group sheet as well as a descendant
and ancestor report. In each case, the Photo event was listed as well as the
attached photo. I also checked Web Page Creation and the Photo event with
attached photo was also included. You seem to have checked the right settings
on creating a FGS. Click on the big Report Options button towards the bottom.
Then click on the pictures tab. Make sure you have a check mark in the “Event
Pictures” option. I think that the default is that this is not checked. You may
also want to check on the Include tab and make sure you have checked “Events
for Husband and Wife”. I’m not sure what you mean by “it will not stay
checked”. Does it immediately turn off again? I did some more playing around
with the FGS and maybe this is what you mean by saying that it will not stay
checked: I noticed that once you check the option to include Event Pictures and
then close the Report Options window, everything will work just fine if you
just continue to generate the report. However, if you jump back into the Report
Options, then that check mark will no longer be there. I suspect this is the
normal operation because the default if for it to be off. If you want to keep
that checked, then you have to SAVE your report settings once you have
everything checked the way you want it, and then LOAD those settings whenever
you want to create a FGS in the future. HTH Brian in CA From: Gene C. Harris

RE: [LegacyUG] How to add a source citation to a photograph?

2015-06-16 Thread Brian L. Lightfoot
I should have added in my post that if you click on the HELP button after
opening the Add Event window, you are taken to a section of the Help file which
is very similar to what you quoted but misleading about adding a new event.
That section is entitled “Add or Edit and an Event/Fact” but only talks about
the editing portion. For example, …

Quote

(If you want to define a new event that is not already in the
Master Event Definition List, see Editing The Master Event Definition List,
below.)

………..

Editing an Event

To change the name, description, date, location, or comments of an existing
event:

1. Highlight the event line you want to edit in the individual's Event List.

2. Click Edit to the right of the list to display the Edit Event window.

3. Make the desired changes and click the Save button.

Endquote

There is no mention on that Help page about adding a new event name. And note
that this info comes after the user clicks the Help button on an Add Event
window. There should be a link within that section of the Help File that takes
one to the “Adding a New Master Event Definition”.

I’m curious as to what section of the Help file you are quoting. Can you give
the section number from the bottom of the page. I know it’s probably in there
somewhere but just where? If one does a search on “Adding a New Master Event
Definition”, you can select the topic “Add or Edit Event Definition” which will
give detailed info about how to add a new event but it is different than what
you are quoting. Maybe that was my point: a relatively new user who doesn’t
know how to add a new event would have problems navigating the Help file search
functions and would tend to click the Help button on the pertinent window that
he or she is looking at.

To add a new event to the Master Event Definition List:

1. Click Add. The Add/Edit Event Definition window displays.

2. Type in the name and sentence definitions of the new event.

3. Click Save to save the new event definition.

Endquote

What's wrong with that? Seems perfectly correct and straightforward to me.

Yes. It works. You have to define the basic sentence definitions. Brian's method
creates a Master Event Type with default sentence definitions. Much quicker :-)

If you are unsure of how to create a new event name such as "Photo", follow these simple steps. Do NOT read the Help file because it is wrong or misleading about how to add a new event name.

Adding a New Master Event Definition
To add a new event to the Master
Event Definition List:

1. Click Add.  The Add/Edit Event Definition window displays.
2. Type in the name and sentence definitions
of the new event.
3. Click Save to save the new event
definition.
Endquote

What's wrong with that?  Seems perfectly correct and straightforward
to me.
