Re: [LegacyUG] data folder

2015-07-20 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Judy,

If you are in the habit of copying the Data folder to One Drive, I
suggest that the last time you did this you actually moved it instead of
copying it.
Just copy it back from One Drive into Documents\Legacy Family Tree.

It would be a good idea to find out where the file is that you've been
opening since you "lost your Data folder". As Bob says, click the big L
on the top left OR if you're using a different option for the Ribbon,
the System tab.

Instead of copying your Data folder to One Drive, why don't you make a
folder in One Drive called Legacy Backup and just backup your family
files to it?

Re: [LegacyUG] data folder

2015-07-20 Thread Robert57P_gmail
It is possible that the last time you opened your normal family file,
that you (by accident or in experimentation) changed one of the defaults
or opened some other family file. Legacy can be set up to load the last
loaded file, or a specific file, or to prompt.

In ver 8, the "previously opened" files do not show up in the FILE
menu. Instead they show up when you click on the blue circle with the
big L in it in the top left corner. (If you have customized your layout
this may be something other than a blue circle.)

Have you searched your hard drive for all files with an extension of
"fdb"? If you find nothing (ouch), have you checked your recycle bin?

The backup prompt (for me) only comes up if I have changed data. If I
just look, I do not get prompted. You can change backup prompts under
Options/Customize, click the button under 12.5, select the first tab.
You may want to look at the other tabs while you are in there.

Default storage locations is located under Options/Customize/Locations.
But, of course, you may have saved your data file manually someplace
else by doing a File/SaveAs and manually specifying the path, so this
info might or might not help you. Thus the reason you may want to
search your entire hard drive(s) for files with an extension of *.fdb

You can change what shows up when you first open Legacy by going into
Options/Customize/General Settings (1.2)

As far as restoring from OneDrive - I don't use OneDrive but I would
suspect it has a utility to browse your harddrive and copy the selected
file(s) to wherever you specify.

Hope these items help.

Good luck,
Bob

[LegacyUG] data folder

2015-07-20 Thread Judy Weber
I have lost the data folder in my Legacy 8 program. How do I get it back? I
have found all the family files which were in the folder by accessing
OneDrive in the cloud. How can I return them in the data folder to the
Legacy 8 program? The family file I was working on does not give the prompt
to back up on the hard drive as it used to. And without the data folder in
Legacy I can't copy the folder containing the family files to One Drive. I
don't know what I did to cause this, but would be grateful for advice on how
to get the folder containing my family files back in the Legacy program as
it used to be.

I have had a look into the database structure, I was an ms access database
support person for 15 years, and there appears no difference as to how dates
for user defined events and built in events are stored. I cannot examine the
process which takes the data and uses it though as that is part of the Legacy 8
coding.

I suggest if you can create a small test database that shows the problem it is
submitted to support using the bug reporting procedure.

Tried that also. The use of double quotes won’t work. I even tried “Not Equal
To *” but still any date with a text prefix is seemingly recognized by Legacy
as a Null entry. And once again, this happens only with User Defined Events.
The regular built-in events handle a search for an empty date field with no
problems.
