[LegacyUG] Uncertain date entry
I'm checking my Potential Problems report and so many are due to approx dates. Is there anyway to tell the programme to accept a decade, like 1960s? [LegacyUG] Unknown partner names
My tree has South American as well as European people in it. So the South American's have two surnames. Sometimes the second or even first surname of someone is not remembered, so only one surname can be entered for children and possibly parents. But the correct name should have two. Because it's a mixed tree this absence is not readily apparent if no marker is used. How can you show that one is missing, when Legacy doesn't like you to enter a ? or something like that. I assume this is a problem others have already solved. Yeah, I find that too precise, when you're trying to indicate a whole decade or two. Brian, With certain exceptions I accept your point that USA Supreme Court decisions are not applicable outside the USA, but to enable me to understand better can you please say in what way the USA court and others (say, UK) are different, or a website URL where this is explained? Deluxe Edition 8.0.0.509 Default set to Starting View = Family View (1.1) Since installing this update, the Tags that have been used against the individuals that are first displayed do not show. Re: [LegacyUG] QUESTION
This is no longer a suitable topic since we have lost any possible link to using Legacy so this is the last email I want to see on this List. If you want to argue further do not use the list to do so. To me it seems rather obvious that the powers of the "top" court in different countries will not be the same. In Canada and the USA they are defined by our written constitutions. I have no idea what powers the British top court has, nor even how many there are (England, Scotland, Wales may each have their own as far as I know) nor what they may be named. What you might want to enter rather depends on exactly what you mean. You could put "1960-1969", but to me that implies an ongoing process taking place during all that time. You could put "abt 1965" but you might feel that implies 1964-1966 rather than a wider time period. You could put "after 1959" or "before 1970" but that might suggest a wider time period option. The simple way is just to tell Legacy to ignore that particular problem by right-clicking the problem icon and selecting "Check for valid dates" on the Problems tab. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://support.legacyfamilytree.com Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). Yes typo. 509. However I now see what you mean. The containers appear on family view but no contents. Thus I can confirm the problem. Whether it exidted previously I cannot confirm. It appears it is nothing to do with settings as the boxes appear, but rather to some internal data display refresh procedure on opening. Should be flagged to Legacy using bug reporting procedures. As a programmer think it just needs one additional lone in the code which dhould be easy to make in next version. With the clarification provided by other messages in this thread the problem is confirmed. It is the tag contents which are not shown in Family View when the program first starts. Any change to redraw the view fills in the tag contents. Problem report raised to have this fixed. Would privacy brackets help you here? That is, put square brackets [[around anything 'private']] like this. You can see them on the screen when you're in Legacy, but you can choose to not include that data in reports. You could use them to mark the missing portion of the surname, so you can see at a glance that it's missing, but you do not have to include it in reports if you want to withhold it. I often use privacy brackets when I know a person exists, but don't know their name, and once I find out their name enter it as an AKA, and then switch the AKA with the main name, to preserve the path of research (I like to use citation dates, so you can see which data was entered when). Hope this helps. :-) Wendy Helen McCall wrote on 8/08/2015 21:27: > My tree has South American as well as European people in it. So the > South American's have two surnames. Re: [LegacyUG] Uncertain date entry
Thanks. There were too many to go through checking that box on everything. I've decided to use between .. and .. and know that it means the decade, approx. I think it's something that needs to be considered, as often we can only remember about what decade something happened. I also would like to be able to put early or late 60s, for instance. Better than something even more vague. But with that I'll have to tell it to ignore the warning. Seems you have to repeat "verify date validity" or some such for each child, as well. Which means other dates will not be checked, presumably. Similarly Qtr ended - government searches give you that - doesn't seem any way to handle that, other than tell nit to ignore. Is there anyway to tell the programme to accept a decade, like 1960s? Re: [LegacyUG] Unknown partner names
Now that sounds nice and sneaky. I'll give it a go. Thanks Helen On 9/08/2015 8:23 AM, Wendy Howard wrote: > Would privacy brackets help you here?
