[LegacyUG] Preparing a book

2016-03-30 Thread Hannigan Family Research
If this is not the appropriate venue for this discussion, please let me
know.

There has been some discussion here and on the FB page about preparing a
book of your family history. Ultimately, my father's desire is to
publish our family history for our personal family usage, as well as
putting a volume in the Allen County (IN) Public Library Genealogy
section. We don't imagine that anyone would be willing to purchase the
story of our ancestors.

There have been several different ideas put forth on how to publish the
material. There is not right way or wrong way here, I just want to get
some opinions on why people would choose a particular method.

First, someone suggested that you would break the book to family groups
and have a section covering each family group. In other words, my
great-great grandfather who came to New York and his family would be one
section and then work through the generations.

Next, another person has suggested breaking it into parts to cover the
families of the male children, again arranging by family group. Here
again, my great-great grandfather who came to New York and his family
would be a section and then his two sons who married would be additional
sections. This would leave out any female children who married.

Still another person suggested the same basic idea of covering the male
children, except the females who married would be covered in separate
chapters with their husband's surname.

And there may be other methods of arranging the family listings/sections.

To what level do you write about? only non-living individuals or do you
include individuals who are living? If you include living individuals,
how much information do you include? especially if you are looking to
'hard copy' bind the book.

Do you include images with the text to include census forms and other
documents or do you include them in a special section at the end of the
book?

Thank you for help in my research.

The mailing list does not belong to the same domain as the sender and DMARC

sender's message as an attachment.

This sounds wrong to me. It has to be the subscriber's mail server that is doing
the repackaging. In this case it's Yahoo.com that is playing by its own rules.

Seems as though it must be a setting in Mailman. I'm on about six other
mailing lists that use Mailman and this is the only one that's showing
posts as attachments.
