[LegacyUG] Getting credit for shared reports

2016-08-08 Thread Dennis Davenport
Hi, how do I tell Legacy that I would like my name added to a report that I
want to share with others--so the person receiving the report knows where
they got the info from.

Thanks!

Re: [LegacyUG] Too many e-mails that I do not want

2016-08-08 Thread R G Strong-genes
FYI, mail to the list from Yahoo mail servers come in as attachments and is
not recommended as people usually just delete any messages that come in as
attachements. Better off using gmail which you can do the same thing with.

See you are in Australia but assume you can use Yahoo.
Suggestion, open a free Yahoo account, their new system captures all emails
with the same subject line into one email stream

Use this email address for your Legacy Group
Do not download this email to your regular email software, read and store it
all online at Yahoo
I receive like 50 emails but they are all combined by subject so it turns
into a stream of only 8 or 9 emails in most cases
This keeps the info separate from your regular mail and off your computer
but still handy if you need to work with the information that list provides.

They allow you to make folders which you can move the legacy emails into by
subject if you wish to retain them for future reference.

If you belong to a mailing list, you get all the emails sent to the list.

The Legacy User Group list isn't a particularly busy list but, if you
need to, find out how to filter your email into different
mailboxes/folders based on either something in the subject line (eg:
subject contains [LegacyUG]) or the To: (To =
legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com). Most email programs can do that.
Then you only see the list email when you choose to go to that
mailbox/folder.

The alternative is to unsubscribe. Email lists are all or nothing.

Re: [LegacyUG] Order of the Source citations

2016-08-08 Thread Brian/Support
1. Are you using the Basic source system or SourceWriter? If you are
using the Basic system then publication facts is a free form input and
will use whatever order you enter in the box.

2. If you are using SourceWriter the format/order for author and title
should be correct for the type of source being used based on the book
"Evidence Explained" by Elizabeth Shown Mills.

It lists the Author before the Title.

I want the Title first and then the Author,

The only way I see is to make the Author the first part of Publication
Details.

It seems that I can add all sorts of "special" characters to Event Notes,
which is very useful when one is often wanted to quote from foreign language
or historical publications. But I also often quote from newspaper articles
and advertisements which frequently incorporate an em-dash (alt+0151) and
although this will appear correctly in the first instance (whether adding
from the Special Characters ribbon or pasting OCR text) as soon as the Event
is saved it reverts to '97 and appears thus in Reports.

Must I resign myself to changing all em-dashes to en-dashes?

[LegacyUG] Register for Webinar Wednesday - The Battle for Bounty Land: War of 1812 and Mexican-American Wars by Beth Foulk

2016-08-08 Thread Geoff Rasmussen
Land given as a “Bounty” for military service has been an American
tradition from the Colonial Era up to the Civil War when the practice saw
its ultimate discontinuance. The Spanish-American and Mexican-American Wars
and the battle waged by the veterans for their bounty land tell the story
of a nation and a military in transition. Lucky for us genealogists, there
is a “bounty” of both military pension and land-purchase records left
behind to tell the story both nationally and personally.

The original message to the list is in the attachment.

This action is required because of the DMARC Reject/Quarantine Policy
imposed by some email providers. Users who want to send messages
without conversion to attachments should use a different email address

Known providers for free email accounts whose emails do not require
this conversion include gmail.com and hotmail.com. Many other email
