Thank you, Michele - that worked.

The next box on my Legacy is "Don't show Married" so I checked that.

I left "On Children" checked, but haven't figured out yet what that will do.

I plan to explore Options to see what all I can do.

Option 8.10. Check the box that says, “On Marriage Info” (I keep the next box

Re: [LegacyUG] Graphic info exported through GEDCOM - What am I missing?

2016-12-29 Thread Denise Moss-Fritch
Thank you Bob. No, the file must be in GEDCOM format. The file I am seeking
to create needs to be only a couple of families (no particular families),
yet representative of a GEDCOM file that can be transferred from Legacy 8. I
was not expecting the problems with urls and links to graphics.

Do the other families have Windows computers? If so, you can send them the
free version of Legacy and a Legacy backup file - that way everything will
be in place at their end. In fact, I think Legacy has a "create CD" option
that pretty much does this. You could probably use either a CD or a USB
key??? I think it includes a link to Legacy download site so they get the
most current version - so if they do not have internet access you may need
to manually copy the Legacy install to the CD??? (Its been a LONG time
since I've messed with this, so I could be wrong.)

And, no, you do not need to send them your entire Legacy file. You can use
tags and such to create a separate Legacy file with just the folks they want
to see, and then use that separate Legacy file to create the CD/USB.

Re: [LegacyUG] Can't open Legacy - Application file is empty

2016-12-29 Thread Sherry
I would start with restarting the computer. Sometimes something gets stuck
in memory (RAM) that needs to be cleaned out.

It's really important to know what the error number and message is. If it
happens again, go to Support.LegacyFamilyTree.com and search there for a
resolution to the error. If you can't find it, or it doesn't work, contact
support, using the Problem Report Form at

Re: [LegacyUG] Graphic info exported through GEDCOM - What am I missing?

2016-12-29 Thread Denise Moss-Fritch
Thanks Bill, however The Complete Genealogy Reporter is not what I seek. The
GenPad Pro would be useful, yet that is an after export of the GEDCOM from
Legacy 8 to fix problems disovered. I am definitely not interested in the
work involved in making repeated corrections to the GEDCOM. I am still
looking for some option I might have missed in Legacy 8 when creating the
GEDCOM that would correct the problems I've encountered. Or, is what I've
encountered a standard GEDCOM export for Legacy 8? As I wrote, I am
relatively new so do not know.

Denise, I use a program called The Complete Genealogy Reporter. It
automatically makes hyperlinks in the resulting PDF file. It also
automatically takes the Gedcom file content and makes various types of
display. If the Gedcom file has a number of graphics associated with a
person the program will display all of them linked to that person.

Possibly the _TYPE URL, which if I am not mistaken is a customized Legacy

2. Actual graphic images (census, certificates, etc) are shown in Legacy as

How big is the book you expect this to be? A long book can take quite a
while to create and I never rely on Windows reports that a program is
not responding in cases when a program is working on a long process. How
long have you waited for the book to be visible? On the pub centre what
is visible in the progress box below the buttons on the right side. You
should see a page counter there which will increase as pages are created
in your book

Hi Jenny,
I am still getting the last family viewed. I just upgraded to v 8.0.0.586
and tested it again - everything is fine.

Curious how there are different experiences.

Go to Help > Help Index and search for "Customize - General Settings".

Here you will find your answers to how you want Legacy to open.
It sounds as if you have 1.1 Program Startup set to last used view and/or 1.3
Starting Family set to Display Last Viewed Family.
It would be useful to browse through the entire help file (with any software
you use) to familiarize your self with what is available and for what you can
do with your software.

Double clicking it should open it in your default PDF reader.

I have a few links to PDFs in my database.

Is there a way to open them within Legacy? If so, I have not found it.
