Re: [LegacyUG] Adoptions'

2017-08-23 Thread Cathy Pinner

Allan,

normally you enter the birth name and put other names in AKAs and also
add notes or an event to document the change of name.
When children are adopted as babes, some use the adopted name as the
main name but still have an AKA (in this case for the birth name) and
the notes or event to make sure it is clear.

There may be better ways to handle this and if you can think of how,
send in a suggestion. See the Legacy Home tab or the Help Ribbon tab for
the link to do this.

Legacy doesn’t seem to handle the change of name from the birth name

How can I resolve this other than by starting another line from the

Re: [LegacyUG] Marriage wording "XX married someone XY"

2017-08-23 Thread Cathy Pinner

Scott,
I suggest you contact Support. I would need a lot more
information/access to your file, to troubleshoot this.
Unfortunately there is no reset button on the Marriage Wording tab. You
could try with one couple to change it to something outlandish and then
change it back.
I assume you've done a File - File Maintenance - Check/Repair but
perhaps I shouldn't assume that.

I think this is a Support issue.

Are you using an English version of Legacy or one of the language
versions? I'm aware that there is some problem in Dutch but it
wasn't in the English version.

If it's just a particular couple, make sure that you don't have
their status as unmarried or the checkbox "this couple didn't
marry" checked. They invoke the unmarried wording.
Also check the wording tab and see if an override has been entered
or wrong wording not cleared.

If it's a particular couple more information could help. If it's
everyone, check Options - Customise 8.7 for your default
"marriage" wording.

The someone should not appear when the spouse is known.

I already often use Google Maps in Legacy, but on three screens:
One with Legacy and the second with Google Maps open.
And on the third, I've excel where I convert the usual standard decimal
coordinates to the non-standard string of numbers used in Legacy.
And then copy and paste.
Wish I could do it right in Legacy on one screen

Who said anything about 'removing' the maps? If there is a change in licensing

Well, I reported less than two hours ago (well after Cathy's note below)
that I had maps in Legacy, including the Master Locations List. As of now, I
no longer have maps. The change was sudden, from having maps to just a blank

Could this sudden change possibly be related to the ownership change?

Re: [LegacyUG] Master Location List maps

Thankfully I have maps still active for the Master Place List. (After importing
a GEDCOM months ago I am still sorting through 5,000 plus locations and am
downs to 3,500 now.)

As for ‘add Google Maps’, with software development it is not a matter of
‘moving’ as which maps are part of the software development tools. Meaning
licensing (and costs) involved. Now that Legacy is part of MyHeritage, perhaps
a different map system will be used – note that MyHeritage does use Google maps
for their PedigreeMap™ view online - so just guess we will have to ‘wait and
see’ what the future brings.
