Re: [LegacyUG] Lost family file after name change

2018-05-22 Thread Tom Hayes
Hi

Easiest action would be to restore a backup. Hopefully you will not have to add
much to catch up.

Otherwise look for your lost Legacy File. It should be in a windows folder
named Legacy Family Tree within a sub file called Data.( If you know the file
name this can be found by searching for it in Windows.)

You should see the Legacy logo next to a file and several other files. If the
Legacy logo file has a large amount of info (KBs), its still there.

Try opening this file by double clicking on it. If in luck it should appear
with all of your data.

A more technically problem might mean you somehow changed the extension on some
of the files and Legacy no longer recognises it.

(If you have a copy of the Sample Data family you can skip Step 1)
Step 1 Open Legacy and restore an old backup. Save it with a different name to
your original one e.g. Old Family.
Go back to the windows data folder.
Step 2 Compare the new file name (or Sample Data files) to your original files.
Make sure the similarly named files have the same extensions.
Change the extension names by right clicking on the name and rename the file
extension after the dot (eg .fg)

Warning: As always it would be wise to make a backup before you make any
changes.
Good Luck

Donna,
How did you change the filename? If you didn't do it from within Legacy - File
- Rename File it's a difficult thing to do as you have to rename every file
that makes up your family file properly AND not lose the extension.

If you did change the filename in Legacy then it should be on your Recent File
list. See this article on how to access that if you don't know.

Re: [LegacyUG] V 9.0.0.226

2018-05-22 Thread Cathy Pinner

Jan
Before making decisions like not upgrading you should learn more about
what happens in the background.

MH have nothing to do with Legacy testing/quality control. Legacy is
operating separately (see the webinar by Gilad Japhet the CEO of
MyHeritage on MyHeritage and Legacy for more). Legacy has its own beta
testers (volunteers) who do their best in available time. In the lead up
to the release of 9 and since have actually been working better than
previously which is why the Legacy 9 release was not followed by a
flurry of bug fix updates as has happened with previous version
releases. You don't see what we do catch before each General Release but
we can't catch everything.

Rune has caught an unusual side affect of a new change that would only
have been picked up by a tester using Regional settings with , decimal
separator. The programmer is already checking this out.

Various features of Legacy 9 will stop working over time once Legacy 10
is released as changes are made at eg FamilySearch. If you don't use
those features, then there isn't a problem using earlier versions.
Someone mentioned on Facebook recently that they were still using Legacy 4.

A warning and a question:

To thoseof you who have Windows regional setting set to any country
that does not use a dot (.) as decimal separator (in Sweden we use a
comma).

DO NOT INSTALL V 9.0.0.226!!

There is a high risk that your database will be corrupt, especially
if you are using geocoding.

And now the question:

How do I return to V 9.0.0.217?

Hopefully with the same database.

Jan,

If you are going to stop with Legacy v9 what are you going to move to? I
have seen issues in most productsQA is something all companies are
struggling with. Not heard any references to V10 anyway have you?

2018-05-22 Thread Michele Lewis
Rune,
I copied this from John’s response to you on Facebook so that everyone can see
it…

Rune, Thanks for your alert. This may be related to the fixes that were done
for manual entry of coordinates. Our testing did not indicate a problem with
coordinates already in the table. I have alerted the programmers. We knew we
still had an issue with manual entry of coordinates when entry used a comma for
a decimal separator.

I suggest that you not try to edit any of your existing locations that have
geocoding until we resolve this. Tag any new locations so you can easily find
them to repair, if needed. Backup your family file! Thanks.
