I am glad you have a work around. I don't have one yet. I hope the "muddle" does not metastasize for either of us. Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Family Tree for Mac
I run Legacy under CrossOver on my MAC laptop. Except for a couple of minor things it seems to work very well. I keep my Legacy files on DropBox so that I can run Legacy on my Win 10 machine as well. The main issue is that you do not want to have Legacy open on two separate machines using the same data base at the same time - very bad things happen! I used to use Parallels on my MAC. I worked well, but I got tired of paying every year. It also took up a lot of disk space for both WIN 10 and Parallels. I would have to go over the options to remember what does not work, but it is very little. When I first used CrossOver, a number of years ago, there were too many things that did not work in Legacy, but with the new versions of CrossOver, Legacy works quite well. bob jones > On 11Jun, 2018, at 3:06 PM, Michael Feldman wrote: > > I run it on my Mac without problems using Windows XP under Oracle Virtual Box > (a free program). I never found a real fix. My work-around was to attach the image in the picture gallery. The Picture Gallery and Media Gallery really seem quite muddled at times. Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Family Tree for Mac
I run it on my Mac without problems using Windows XP under Oracle Virtual Box (a free program). I'm not a heavy user or a serious genealogist, but I've found LFT to be a better program than the native Mac alternatives. It would be very nice to see someone develop a new LFT from scratch on a common code base that could be ported to Windows, Mac, and Linux without too much difficulty. I wonder if Millenia has done a serious market survey on this -- they could reach a potentially very large market if they used this multi-platform approach. Or if nobody is making much money these days on LFT, maybe they could even release the VB source and let the open-source world reverse-engineer it and rewrite it using something more up to date than VB. The success of big multiplatform open-source projects like Firefox is a good indicator of the progress we've made in separating multiplatform concerns from platform-specific ones. Mac, Windows, and Linux are not *that* different anymore. Conversion to the current Visual Basic .NET is possible, but it is not backwards compatible and the conversion process is not possible for most projects. -- LegacyUserGroup mailing list LegacyUserGroup@legacyusers.com To manage your subscription and unsubscribe http://legacyusers.com/mailman/listinfo/legacyusergroup_legacyusers.com Archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/

To a large degree that will depend on whether the Legacy developers and Millennia want to rebuild the entire program from scratch.
