Be sure to do the import of the GED file into a new blank family file or it
will be merged with your existing file families.

I do not think that you can download a csv file from Ancestry. Just
giving a file a name like filename.csv does not change the content. if
you downloaded a file from Ancestry it is probably a GEDCOM file which
is the standard format for genealogical files.

Rename the file to filename.ged
Open Legacy and use file > Import > GEDCOM file
when you have finished the import from filename.ged
Go to View > Name List
Click Options > Print
Now you will be able to define up to three rows of data you can include
for each person.
Select CSV file in the lower right
The print box in the upper right will change to Create
Click create
In the dialog box select the folder where you want to save the file and
assign a file name
Click save
Remember where you saved that file
Open Excel then open the file you exported from legacy.

Jean,

It was just one of the many YouTube videos on how to use Chrome.
I have no idea whether it's a good one but it's a starting point.

The latest update to Chrome looks a little different and the New Tab is
more useful as you can add your own favourite sites to it.

Re: [LegacyUG] tutorial on Publishing Family Tree

2018-09-14 Thread Cindy Custer
I have over 1,000 names in my family tree. I have already posted an earlier
(smaller) GEDCOM file

online at Ancestry.com - it is called Widder-Witter in Franklin County, PA.

I want to print the family group information, including research notes and
pictures.
I want to self-publish an updatable book - pages kept in a 3-ring binder
that I can
remove and replace with updated pages as additional information becomes
available.
I want to be able to create managable (smaller family groupings) wall charts
for display

I have tried to use the reports avaiable in the Legacy 9 software but I am
having GREAT

difficulties learning how to use the software for reports and publishing.
I already own the Legacy (beginner-advanced) Volume 1 Training series. It is
very good
but does not address reports or publishing. Do you have something like that
available?

Define publish?

Do you want to create a web site?

Do you want to self-publish a soft or hard cover book?

Do you want to create a wall chart for display?

If you want to publish a book or wall chart do you want to then offer
copies for sale or just for distribution to your family members?

As you can see there are a lot of options on where and how you can use
Legacy to distribute your data, or parts thereof.

Re: [LegacyUG] Error 402

2018-09-14 Thread Brian Kelly
Do you want to delete the single file legacy2.usr to reset your Legacy
screens to the default sizes. If so you will find the file in the folder
...\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\Usr.

If you want to reset all your Legacy settings to their defaults you may
be wanting to delete the entire ...\Documents\Legacy Family
Tree\_AppData\Usr folder and all the files it contains.
