[LegacyUG] In Legacy I would like to be able to find all " second cousins " for example

2019-09-16 Thread Valerie Garton
I can do this by creating a CSV file but I would like to stay in Legacy.

Cheers from Valerie Garton [nee Vaughan] in sunny Sydney

Re: [LegacyUG] Why an error message??

2019-09-16 Thread Cathy Pinner

Roberta,
I was just responding to your comment: "And with couples putting off
childbirth until later on, that message will pop up more and more often."
Early to mid 1900s people were likely using birth control. I have mine
set to stop checking after 1930 and sometimes think I should set it
earlier. They may have been using methods of birth control earlier as
they were around but I'd think of fertility issues and miscarriages
first for the earlier centuries. Just because earlier methods weren't
100% reliable, doesn't mean they weren't used and weren't successful.

Cathy, the ones where that message pops are way before birth control.
Like in the 1700s, 1800s and early to mid-1900s.

In any event, I am hardly getting that message anymore.

Roberta,

If you set your gaps settings correctly then the message about child
born too late after marriage will NOT pop up more and more often.
There is a place to put a date for when you think your families
started using birth control and the gaps are no longer checked. You
can also just omit living people from the check.

I also get one saying that the birth is too soon after marriage!  It
will also pop up when a couple have children, then decide to get married.

Birth of first child is later than normal after Marriage Date of
Parents. Verify the birth and marriage dates.
There might be a child missing.

It's less than five years, for heaven's sake!

Why? Because - rightly or wrongly - the programmers have deemed that it
is usual (or "normal" as they put it) for the first child to be born
within a shorter time after marriage.

You will also find similar messages about gaps between birthdates of
successive children. Personally, I find this useful. Very often there
is NOT a child missing and I can mark it as "not a problem" but on
several occasions it has led to me finding a child I had previously not
been aware of.
