Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Cloud

2020-12-15 Thread Brian Kelly

There are several cloud backup/storage services:
Some offer Free storage that is usually adequate for a Legacy Database
but may not be sufficient if you also store your media backups on the
service. My Media backup for example is a 2.7 Gigabyte file my Legacy
Backup is only 10 Megabytes

These offer free storage
Dropbox
OneDrive by Microsoft
Backup and Sync by Goggle (Goggle Drive)

They also have expanded storage for a fee.

There are also a number of paid services which provide cloud based storage.

For Dropbox, Goggle Drive and OneDrive there is a special folder on your
local hard drive set up by the service/App. Files stored there are
automatically synced to the cloud by the App. For those apps you only
need to set your backups to use the special local folder and the App
will send a copy to the cloud.

Most of the paid services allow you to specify folders and/or files
which the service will backup to the cloud. Designating your Legacy Data
and Media folders in those services mean you can store your files and
backups wherever you wish and the service will sync them to the cloud
storage.

Because those cloud storage services are syncing files/folders from your
local hard drive there is no need to have a second backup to the cloud
option once the legacy cloud storage shuts down.

There is a suggestion to modify the backup to allow making backups in
multiple locations, you can add your vote for this by submitting a
suggestion using the Link on the Legacy Home Tab or by email to
supp...@legacyfamilytree.com

[LegacyUG] Gedcom Report

2020-12-15 Thread Joy L

Hi everyone.

Earlier in 2020 IO was given instructions on how to do Ancestor and
Descendent reports.
When I did it as either Descendant Reports or Ancestor Reports as per
the instructions by Alan it came out exactly how I wanted it to. That is
fine if I want to send or print a book report.

Now is there any way I can send the same file as a Gedcom file please.
If so how?

I have tried for so long without success.

I even downloaded Rootsmagic, in which I was able to do descendants
and get the information I wanted as a Gedcom without getting a complete
line including my husband's line, or just virtually getting a straight
line down, say from my grandfather, to my father, me, my son and his
daughter.

But in Roots Magic I can't see to do the Ancestors of my fathers unless
it’s a Pedigree Line.

Can anyone help please.

I am even desperate enough to ask if anyone in the Melbourne Metro area
would be available in the New Year to give me some lessons.

Thanks

Joy Light

Re: [LegacyUG] Place of Death

When the place of death is some distance from the residence, I do use
the actual place of death.  For example, my paternal grandmother lived
in Georgia but actually died in North Carolina while visiting a son.

How do others handle this?

Where I know it, I always use the full address in the Location field of
an Event. In the case of someone dying somewhere other than their usual
residence I enter the death address in the Death Place field and add a
Residence event which reads "On , at the time of his/her death,
his her/address was ..."
