you want to do that, you have to go into the FamilySearch Family Tree

Nevertheless, I very much appreciate all that is being done, and if we

[LegacyUG] Advice Recording LDS Ordinances

Coming back to legacy after using software on the MAC platform, I would like to
know the best practice for recording ordinances for children who died young.
The software I used would automatically mark it as “Not Necessary”

2017-06-08 Thread Allen Prunty
Janie,

API’s exist so that third parties can interface with their data. I understand
changes need to be made and we are not dealing with high security information
here… after all most of the people who are listed in family search are dead.

You would think that any changes to the API would be sent to the developers of
those who use them so that they can make the changes to their systems in
advance of the new API deployment.

Or they could maintain backwards compatibility for some time so that people can
switch over to the new API smoothly.

As for the Govt… I’m former US Gov employee… I’ve seen many things fixed until
they are broken.

Hey Allen,

I work for the US Government, and I resemble that remark! 

But you can't sit still. The computer industry is constantly changing to
provide better, faster, safer, and sometimes those changes have unintended
consequences when you are trying to interface with applications you don't
own/control.

Re: [LegacyUG] Passage Express

2017-05-28 Thread Allen Prunty
Perhaps they will release it into the public domain. It's a shame that
when software companies are "done" with a product they just mothball
it. For someone, Passage Express was a love and passion when they
designed it, Chances are that it did not return enough revenue to
justify its continued development. In this case the greatest gift that
a software company could do would be to release it in to the Public
Domain. If the product is something that people truly would use someone
will step up and continue development on it, even if it's on a hobby basis.

When it first came out it was a third party product. My understanding
though is that those developers no longer wanted to update the program
and a deal was worked out where Millennia got the source code and
authorization to maintain it so in that respect it became a Millennia
product.

I do not know why it was discontinued but I suspect that Millennia did
not have the programmer resources to maintain Passage Express and fix
a number of bugs in the program.

RE: [LegacyUG] Interesting Problem

My new printer has a duplexer built in to print on two sides automatically.
It's actually very neat to watch. As I print my family tree information it's
saving real trees.

It will print page 1... then just before it kicks it out it sucks it back in
and prints page 2 on the back. Then starts on 3 then does 4 etc and etc.

So a 20 page doc takes 10 pages. It also looks more professional in a binder.

I don't know what is up with the problem, but we in the USA are into a
holiday weekend, so the support staff may not see this message until
Tuesday morning Pacific Time. They might come in anyway, but it is
probably unlikely. My shot in the dark guess may not help, but lets
get some details, so if any staff are in they can work from more
facts. What do you mean by duplexing? I know a similar problem in the
past (I had it), was in some reports my 'next page' controller was
scrolling to the next one, because in the notes, a hidden ctrl break
was lurking. At that time it would suddenly go from typing in the
middle of 'page 1' , put out an empty page, then resume notes on its
page 3. This was fixed by studying where the cursor actually going by
'tabbing' within the suspect notes, and seeing if there was a
'lurker'. If you find one, just delete it by backspacing over it.
Mine were lurking in the ToDo list notes, so they may be anywhere. If
what you are experiencing does not match I have described, I am sorry
 I didn't help.
