Okay. I apologize then as I've never seen it. I work with applications for

Re: [LegacyUG] Sources: Show List

2019-05-27 Thread Debbie Jorgenson
I contacted support and got the following response, which fixed the problem:

Go into your file and run a file>file maintenance>list cleanup and run the
list cleanup tool. Next run a file>file maintenance>rebuild source
citation.

After the list cleanup and rebuild if the problem still occurs try
exporting to a new file. To do this open Legacy and your file and go to
file>export>Legacy file and export to a new Legacy file.

[LegacyUG] Sources: Show List

2019-05-21 Thread Debbie Jorgenson
I have some sources that used the Basic Source style, either imported from
other software or completed by me. I decided to look at these again and see
if they needed to be cleaned up and create a citation using Source Writer.
I went to my master list, selected sources, and then selected the top one,
1820 US Census. When I selected "Show List," I get a listing of individuals
using this source, including two individuals who weren't even alive in 1820
(born in 1929 and 1949). From this same box (All Individuals Who Use this
Master Source), I selected one of these individuals and then selected "Edit
Person." This person does not appear to use this source at all. (I viewed
Assigned Sources for each individual.)

I've also gone into each person and created a preview of the Family Group
Individual Report for these individuals and the source is not listed for
these individuals. I've run File Maintenance > Check & Repair three times
and the problem still exists. This is not the only source I've run into
this problem. I've found it happening in my top five census sources.

Any idea on what is happening and how to fix this?

Re: [LegacyUG] Location standards

2019-02-04 Thread Debbie Jorgenson
I think it is a personal preference and whatever you decide, stick to it. I
started out typing the word County as I had found in Iowa we have Des
Moines (city) and Des Moines County, just as an example. Then I was told to
never type the word County or the abbreviation Co. for county so I went in
and deleted all the word "County", leaving my locations Des Moines, Polk,
Iowa, United States. I have since learned that many in my Legacy User's
Group use the word County in their location places.

The Daughters of the American Revolution, on their applications for
admittance, instruct applicants to list locations as: Des Moines Polk Co IA
(no periods of commans and using the abbreviation Co for the word county).

Re: [LegacyUG] Passage Express Replacement

2018-02-09 Thread Debbie Jorgenson

Hi Mike,

Linda Greethurst mentioned my name in an earlier comment to your original
post. You can create a website within Legacy as Gene Young stated.

The five web pages’ styles:

Ancestor: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Webs/ancestor/index.htm

Descendant: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Webs/descendant/index.htm

Pedigree: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Webs/pedigree/index.htm

Family: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Webs/family/index.htm

Individual: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Webs/individual/index.htm

If you need help with that, let me know and I'll be happy to assist or
point you in the right direction. I have a handout I created for our user
group I would be happy to share with anyone interested. This "website" does
not have to be posted online but could be handed out on some sort of media
(CDs or flash drives) to family members. Keep in mind that newer laptops
and tablets do not have CD drives and/or input for a flash drive.

John Cardinal's GedSite has also been mentioned and I am a big supporter of
this program. I feel I can have a more customizable site that looks nicer.
Just my humble opinion. My site created using GedSite can be found at
http://loghryledger.site/up/index.htm.

Ad for
Philip's suggestion of creating a PowerPoint I have no experience or
opinion on. Sounds like a lot of extra work on your part.

One thing to consider with a website is the ability to quickly update it
with new information, i.e., you finally proved who your great-grandfather's
parents were. If you provide family members a CD, they will have to wait
until the next family reunion where you hand out new CDs or until you burn
CDs and pay to mail them to everyone. Are you getting the idea of the
benefits of posting your data online? John Cardinal even mentioned a
private web site.

One thing to keep in mind though, is I STRONGLY encourage you not to
include information on any living individuals.

Re: [LegacyUG] LegacyUG] Future of Legacy Private Website Creator

2017-09-09 Thread Debbie Jorgenson
I am uploading my new site created yesterday from my Legacy database. You
can see how a narrative report looks here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~debjrgnsn//g1/p1.htm#i3.
This needs fine tuned.

[LegacyUG] How to Link Mother

2017-06-25 Thread Debbie Jorgenson
I have an individual I've added a couple children to but was unsure of the
mother. So I added them just to the father (no mother). After research, I
have decided they belong to wife #1 (already linked to father). When I try
to add mother, I select the option to link to an existing individual (the
box title is: add spouse t0). After selecting the correct mother, I
receive a box (Duplication) with the message that [mother] is already the
wife of [father]. What am I doing wrong?
