I agree with you. I have issues with copying and pasting when I use Windows
Notepad with Legacy where sometimes it won't let me copy the text. I usually
go back to the previous page then forward it again then it will allow me to
copy the text. I've had this problem only in the browser at Ancestry and Find
A Grave. Notepad has always been dysfunctional for me. The text in it does
some weird things where it disappears then returns if I scroll up then down.

I believe it is a Windows 8.1, Notepad, or Internet Explorer 11 problem, and
could be attributed to Windows Updates which I am careful with installing due
to severe issues in the past. Windows 7 always worked best for me only my
current computer, which came with Win 8.1, refuses to function properly.

I have Windows 7 and don't have the problem specifically with Legacy but have
run into times that the shortcut keys don't work when copying from my browser.
The right click works fine. This is something that happened fairly recently so
I suspect a Windows update may be the fault here.

We have seen a lot of strange Legacy problems which seem to be related to
Windows 8 and I don't particularly like the interface. Windows 7 works fine for
me in most every respect - *much* better than Vista, that's for sure!

  Ditto,

  Same here too.

I run File check every day and rarely get a 'log' where the fixed errors are

But like Wendy, I upgraded to the most current version and then ran the file
check.

Normally it finishes pretty quickly, but for some reason it took well over 5
mins to get past Step 87.

And the result was a similar error, (And all 3 of these did not show as

go??

At lest 90 minutes go I began downloading the latest Legacy update -- first
it told me I'd have to enter a password -- but it never asked for one. After I
started the download I closed the family file I'd started to work on but hadn't
entered anything.

After a while it told me had 16 minutes to go, after 10 minutes or so it was
down to 8 minutes. The next time I looked it was one hour!! (I was playing
free cell) A half hour or so later it was two hours. Now it says I have three
hours left!! (and has said that for some time). Ordinarily the downloads I
get move long quickly and take less time than I'm first told. (I have a dsl
connection and am using Google Chrome.)

Once before (some months ago) I attempted to download something (don't recall
whether it was Legacy -- I think not -- or something else) & and the time left
got longer and longer until it was up to 22 hrs or something similar -- I don't
recall the outcome now except that eventually I stopped that particular
download.

  I have a Dell Studio laptop -- Windows 7 -64 bit.

  What should I do now??

  Thanks,

  Pat

Re: [LegacyUG] Dates in CSV file

Mary,
Highlight the Excel column then format as custom 'd mmm ' (without the
quotes). From the Home menu, click right adjust so they line up on right.
Things should look good. If you need to do arithmetic on the dates, remember
that dates before 1900 are really just text instead of numbers. If you need to
work with those early ones, look at installing Xdate as an Excel addin.

I have created a CSV file from the Name List containing Surname/Given Name,
Living Indicator, Birth Date, and Death Date. When I look at the file in
Notepad, the dates look good. But when I open it in Excel, some of the
dates are formatted differently than most of the others.

For example, the date 1 Sep 1913 in Legacy looks the same in Notepad but in
Excel, it is displayed as 1-Sep-13. When I look at the table in Access
(tblIR), the dates look different than those that are correct.

Does anyone have an idea why the dates are "messed up" for some people but
not others? And is there an easy way to fix them?

  Thanks,
  Mary

Please go to our website at

http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/helpJetServPk.asp
 and follow the steps
  there.

In step 1, where it says to update Legacy, rather than just updating,
  do the following:

After you uninstall Legacy, with Windows Explorer find and look in the
C:\Legacy folder or whichever folder you had Legacy installed in.
Within this folder you will find several files remaining that you will
need to delete. Within this folder you will find several files
remaining that you will need to delete. Carefully delete the
following files with the file extension of:

  .usr (defined as "USR File")
  .exe (defined as "Application")

DO NOT delete any of the folders like the Data folder, Picture Folder
or Web Folder as these folders hold your data and you don't want to
accidentally delete your family file or pictures. Don't delete any
reports you may have saved to the main Legacy folder nor should you
delete the Legacy*.lic file. All the other files should be deleted.
You'll need to reset your preferences after you reinstall.

Download the latest build of the Standard Edition from our website by
clicking on the Download menu button. If you have the Deluxe Edition,
you may need to go to Help > Unlock Legacy Deluxe to unlock the Deluxe
  features after you reinstall.

**When you reinstall, make sure that all other programs are shut down
and your anti-virus and anti-spyware software is disabled.**.

Continue with the next two steps on the webpage.

  Sherry

That's essentially the same as renaming the file. Legacy is looking
for a .bmp file, not a .jpg file.

Best to make sure that pictures are in the final location and have the
correct name and file type before linking to Legacy.
