Re: [LegacyUG] Unmarried Unions

2022-04-08 Thread Marina via LegacyUserGroup

I agree with Ian, that is how I do it.

To tag the female partner as a Mistress gives the partnership a feeling
of something illegal to be spoken about in hushed tones. In my younger
days a mistress was " a bit on the side."
Just my thoughts.

There is a Not Married check box in Marriage information section. I
just put the name in as a Spouse and then check off the no record of
Marriage.

HI Marina,

Go to the child Isaac.

Right click on the parents, choose “Add Additional Parents”, a pop up
screen will show parents of Isaac (Isaac and Jane).

Click on “Link to Existing parents” and choose Isaac and Mary. You will
now see two sets of parents with the incorrect one usually highlighted.
If not, highlight (click on) the incorrect parents (Isaac and Jane)
then “Unlink from Child”.

In the next pop up window click “Yes” to confirm.

Regards,

Bob

I have Issac who married Jane who died with no issue,

Issac then married Mary and had child Issac .

My problem is Legacy is recording Jane as the child Issac mother, I
have looked at unlinking Jane from the child but the programme wants to
unlink the father as well. I have also tried linking to Mary but
couldnt.

im sure there must be a simple way I just cant see it.

I had the same problem also tried changing the gender to no avail.

I just discovered a married couple entry where I had female on the LHS marked
as male, and her husband on the RHS marked as female.
Despite changing gender appropriately and doing check/repair, they remain on
the wrong sides.

They had 4 children so it would not be too much trouble to unlink everything
and fix my problem (my bad entry and checking - not a fault of Legacy), but is
there a simple way to fix this?

My problem is ive recorded the marriage and wish to show they had no

dosent allow this.
I can see this problem occurring with some of my present day relatives
as well .
Any ideas

Ian,

You can tag using Advanced Tagging or you can search and tag or hashtag the
search list.

The Legacy Help file is not a PDF so I think you are referring to the Legacy
User Manual. That is not updated.

However the inbuilt Help file is constantly updated and is far more extensive
than the User Manual. It may not be refreshed with every new build but it is
often as holes are found and plugged and unclear entries are clarified.
The Help button is on every screen. On the main Views there is a small question
mark icon to access. All these are context sensitive and are a far easier way
into the Help than using the Help Index on the Help Ribbon tab. However the
Index is good provided you use the Legacy terms for things and not what you've
decided to call it.

I’ve forgotten how to easily add a hashtag to all of the children (or even
below that level, to all descendants) of a couple.

Can someone please give me a short recipe for doing that?

Is this explained in the (PDF) Help file? I’m not sure if that file is
updated/replaced with each new release of Legacy v9 Deluxe.

[LegacyUG] marriage information

2019-08-24 Thread Marina via LegacyUserGroup

Hi All
Is there anyway to have Common Law or never married come up on the
screen when you view Joe Bloggs and Annie Crufts in the family view. I
have entered never married or common Law in to the marriage info screen
but it does not appear on the family view. I have checked the Help page
and cant see anything that addresses this.
Love reading the emails and am always excited when I can understand the
computer Jargon. There is so much to learn with this programme.
Thanks Marina in a very cold Australia

[LegacyUG] dates

2019-05-11 Thread Marina via LegacyUserGroup

Hello

I read all your emails regularly but have not yet come across this
problem which I think I am having. when i write on the profile a date
such as 1665/66 the programe immediately amends the date to 1666 . it
will accept 166?.
Also if I have had a flight of fancy and added someone who is not mine
when I delete this person does Legacy recalculate and re number my grand
total of tree members.
Thank you Marina

Hi Gloria,

"Does that size limit include what's in each individual's Media
Gallery? I have many certificates attached to each person in my tree."

The size of those individual files attached to you tree does not affect
the size of your Legacy file, as it's only the path to that file that
is stored - not the file itself.

But, the more links, events, notes, etc, in your file, the larger the
Legacy file. Every character stored takes up its own space. A file
with a large number of individuals but few events and notes can be
smaller than a file with fewer people but lots of events and notes and
other information.

Having said that, it is probably quite rare that anyone comes up
against the size limit. I think, in the 15 years I've been using
Legacy and been involved in this mailing list, I've heard one (maybe
two) people say they had to split their file because it was literally
too big to continue as it was. (As opposed to people who say their
file is too big, but the reality is they are having difficulty in their
own heads about navigating around it, not that the program is
struggling with the size.)

Hope this helps. :-)

Have you got 300,000 people or more? People have Legacy databases

It's possible depending on your project but I'd check before thinking
of splitting.
