Ian,

FYI you can then put the parents in the family view and then on the
child list you can show the relationships to the parents ie biological,
adopted, etc. Then you can source the relationship. I didn't know if you
knew that feature as well more info in the help file on child list
display by right or left clicking on the left margin of the list to get
the popups. Hope that makes sense.

Re: [LegacyUG] transfer to new computor

2023-08-31 Thread R G Strong Genealogy

Kim,

On your new computer in Legacy go to Options>Customize>6. Locations and
see what paths show those are where you need to put copies of your zip files

6.1 My family files are in the C:\Users\username\Documents\Legacy Family
Tree\Data\  this is global for all family files(gbl)

6.2 and my media files are in C:\Roots\  this is a (ff) for family file
can be different from other family files.

6.3 is for temp folder which is a global setting.

For more info check the help files for transferring files and options.

Now from your old computer just copy the Legacy Family Tree\Data\ folder
and save it to a portable usb device

On your new computer open explorer and paste the contents of the Data
folder into the same folder on new computer.

Now Open Legacy and if old file is open close it or use Tools>Restore
family file window opens to select your family file with the latest date.

or if not open then launch Legacy then File>Restore family file.

then

to restore your media then unzip it to the root drive letter where you
want your media kept. It will restore all directory paths to the media
and place them in the same folders as old one had.

or use media linker to find all your media.

Hope this helps

Re: [LegacyUG] Adding Legacy to a Flash Drive

Robert,

I don't think the program will run from a flash drive, however, you can
place the family file on the flashdrive you just have to tell Legacy
where your family file is located. You can have the Legacy Program on
both a laptop and a pc as long as only one is open at one time. There
are help files on how to do this both in program and the Legacy website.

Re: [LegacyUG] file copying.

2020-06-11 Thread R G Strong Genealogy
On the source computer use Backup family file then copy the file created
to your Legacy backup folder on the destination computer. From the
destination computer open Legacy and use Restore family file from local
backup and use the backed up file that you copied from your source
computer. When you backup a family file all the necessary files are
backed up with it so you only need to know the name of the family file
backup file which is usually saved as name of family file - date.zip and
the media files will have media in the name of the file.

[LegacyUG] Legacy program window not resizing RESOLVED

2019-02-08 Thread R G Strong Genealogy

Hello,

A few months ago it was discussed about the problem of the Legacy
program window not being able to resize as it would always snap back to
the original size that it opened in. Well I have figured out what the
problem is that causes it! It is because the workspace is maximized in
the Legacy application window! If you go to the menu bar on the top
right side next to About is the little window icons which says on mouse
over "Restore Window" clicking on it will restore the workspace
application window to its normal size then you can resize the main
application window to the size you want.

Re: [LegacyUG] Hash Tags

2017-05-11 Thread R G Strong Genealogy

Martha,

Hash Tags can be whatever you want them to be for as long as you want
them to be.

As for a gedcom it depends on which type of gedcom you create since they
are proprietary their gedcom tag would start with an underscore _HASHTAG
and would not be in the 5.5 standard GEDCOM. If you wanted to send it
then you would have to select a gedcom that includes it or you would
customize the gedcom and add it.

On 5/11/2017 10:47 AM, Martha Graham wrote:

Good Morning Cathy,
Thank you for the explanation on where the Hash Tag data is located.
If it is 'inside' the fdb file, then they should not have disappeared.
I am curious about one other thing. I am using them as a temporary way
of marking people.
I use tagging for marking people who fit different requirements with
regard to my research.

Are the Hash Tags meant to be an alternate permanent identifier or
just temporary like I am using?

Reason I ask is whether they would be included in a gedcom and if so,
what happens to them when someone who does not use Legacy opens the
gedcom?

I hope the question makes sense.

It is not Legacy. It is windows. Windows remembers where a window
was when the program closes and tries to put it back there.
You may have had a window open off screen when you closed Legacy
and windows put it back there

Here's one way to "rescue" such an off-screen window and bring it
back onto the active monitor:

Make the off-screen window the active window by clicking on
its icon in the Windows Taskbar.
Press Alt+Space, and then press the M key. ...
Press any arrow key once.

Re: [LegacyUG] mystery or being space cadet?

2017-03-20 Thread R G Strong Genealogy
This was the build that removed the Research Guidance from a tab to a
sub menu. The family view icon for it must have been added recently but
was not published in the revision history.

   2 March 2014 - Version 8.0.0.412- Build

   *New Items*

*FamilySearch*- Added the feature to be able to skip the "Possible
   Duplicates" task for an individual.

*FamilySearch*- Added the option to auto download descendants of an
individual in FamilyTree. So now, you can download ancestors and
   descendants of an individual.

*Pedigree View*- Added back the Spouse/Children and Siblings Lists.
To turn on the two lists Right Click on Pedigree View background
area and from the popup menu select "Show Spouse/Child and Siblings
   Lists"

*Media Gallery*- Added "Scan a Picture" to the menu of the Add Media
   button.

*Media Gallery*- From the Media Gallery there is a new button to add
the current picture as the Windows Desktop Background.

   *Changed Items*

*Research Guidance*- There is no longer a Research tab on the main
views. Research Guidance is now requested by clicking the Research
Guidance button on Tools > Other Tools or by clicking the Research
button that can now be added to the My Toolbar tab. This generates
guidance for the current person. (You can now select a current
person on the Pedigree, Descendant, and Index Views. On the Family
View, guidance is requested by right-clicking on the desired person
and choosing Research Guidance from the submenu. (The Husband and
Wife can still have a Research Guidance button on their toolbars.)
This can also be done on the Pedigree, Descendant, and Index Views
by right-clicking on a person and choosing Research Guidance.
