I don’t think that they were ever coloured on the Family View, but would be
good if they were.

Oh, hang on - I think I'm having a senior moment! I see that the labels
ARE coloured on the Individual's Information screen. Did I just imagine
it that they used to be coloured on the Family View as well?

Susan,

Next time start a new email when you are introducing a new topic. Just changing
the Subject line doesn't start a new conversation.

The Geo Locator database is known not to be very accurate when mapping.
On the map, right click where the pin should be to relocate it.

I don't use it at all. I just use the map (and Google etc to define locations
accurately).

Thanks Brian,

comma.

Susan

No you are not doing anything wrong but the Geo Database is designed to
work only with four level locations city, County, State, Country where a
comma and space are used for missing levels. Your house and street in
levels one and two are confusing it so it is not able to find your location.

If it's anything like it was in 7.5, you'll see a column headed 'L'. If it
contains a 'V' then it has latitude/longitude values. The pin will show up
roughly where the values indicate. If the pin is in the wrong place, simply
manipulate the map until the correct place is shown then right-click on the
 map
 to re-situate the pin.

Hi Graham,

I haven't noticed that but when I look at my 7th and 8th great grandparents,
their relationship is mark 7th great grandfather+
I am unsure what the + indicates.

Susan

I've reported a number of issues/errors about how Legacy handles relationships
but have just come across another strange occurrence. I have all my 4th Great
Grandparents entered and one entered recently now shows on family view as 'Wife
of 4th Great-Grandfather' rather than '4th Great-Grandmother' as are all the
others. He only had one spouse and all their children show correctly. I've done
a check/repair. Has anyone else seen this?

PS I would have thought correct relationships was fairly fundamental to a

RE: [LegacyUG] Entering Unknown People

Thank you to all the marvellous people who have offered assistance in entering
unknown names. I think that at this stage I will try David’s method.

Susan

Thanks David,

And I agree with you

REMEMBER that there is NO right or wrong way, just what one prefers to do and
WORKs for them.

I agree with Jay, I like to have something there to tell others that it is
missing.

I use some of the following, this also gives me a list within the Index that I
have unknown names:

Jane ? (Wife of Peter Jones)

Ann? (Mother of Peter Jones)

? Smith (Husband of Ann Lyons)

? Smith (Father of William Smith)

Yes this does not look so nice in any report, but like Jay say, it is an eye
catcher and brings in information.

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] UK Registration Dates

From the help file

Quarter Dates

There is a special date format for recording dates from the indexes of Births,
Marriages, and Deaths for England and Wales published by the GRO (General
Records Office). These indexes are organized on a calendar quarter basis by the
date when the event was reported to the GRO. The quarters are Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun,
Jul-Sep, and Oct-Dec. Legacy will accept a date based on these quarters that
are entered in the following format:

[month] Q [year] - For [month] substitute the ending month for one of the
calendar quarters. For year substitute the year of the Index.

Example: Jun Q 1876 would be the date for an event included in the GRO Index
for the April to June Quarter of the year 1876.

As Kathy says, the correct format for UK registration dates is mmm Q . Your
example of Sep % just means a date in September of a year and not the Sep
quarter.

RE: [LegacyUG] Name Search

2014-01-30 Thread Susan Jones
Many thanks Jenny and Bob,

Hadn't realised that I was not using the Name List which has 10695 people. The
Search List only has 1565. In L7.5 and all previous versions I had used the
Name List to find anyone I was looking for, never the Search List so I am not
quite sure why there are the 2 lists. Yes I enter names as Jenny says.

Still working my way around many of the features in L8.
Thanks again
Susan
I missed your original post. It sound like you have already created a Search
List by some method - and are then searching *that* list, as this is the only
way I can find the 'search key at the bottom of the page'. The names
will/should show up, as Jenny describes below, *if* they are in the list. When
you go to the Search button at the bottom of the page and click on 'Show Name
List' you are taken back to the name list of your entire file, not just the
Search List.

If the name you are seeking has not been included in the Search List then, of
course, it will not show up - clicking on 'Name List' takes you to your entire
file where it does show up.

Do you mean finding someone in the name list?

If so, as soon as you type the first letter of the surname the focus should
jump to the first person in the list whose surname begins with that letter. As
you continue to type, the focus moves down to the first matching name again.
When you've typed the full name you need to type a comma, a space, then start
on the forename. Again, the cursor should keep jumping down the list .

Is this not happening for you? It works fine for me. Or are you having a
problem somewhere else?

Legacy Backups have always been .zip files. If you want to copy your family

If you go into the Marriage Information window and click on Save
when you exit the window, Legacy generates an unknown spouse for that
individual. The Marriage Information window is *only* for marriages and not
information related to an individiual.

If the individual was never married and had no children, then you select that
option on the Individual's Information window.

To clear the marriage, you'll have to unlink the person from the Unknown
spouse the program generated by clicking on the Spouse icon.

Susan,

If you are referring to showing the not married, had no children on the
marriage information bar in family view...try going to Options,
Customize...click on the View tab...in the left hand column, at the
bottom...Show Status on Family View...see if you have a check in on marriage

Also click don't show married if you do NOT want that on every Marriage
