[LegacyUG] Billion Graves

2024-06-21 Thread Terry Montgomery
I see there is now a field called "Billion Graves ID" on the
Individual's Information screen.

There is an icon for Find A Grave in the Search bar. Is there one for
Billion Graves somewhere?

[LegacyUG] Adopted person

2023-10-16 Thread Terry Montgomery
I have just discovered a person who was adopted, and was took the name
of her adoptive parents.

So there is the name of her biological parents, the name of her adoptive
parents, and her married name.

How do people write this up in Legacy?

Re: [LegacyUG] Descendant Book

My answer to that is print the PDF as a PDF, leaving out the blank
pages, and giving it a very similar name.

But I had been hoping it was possible to not have them in the first place.

Re: [LegacyUG] Marriage event

2023-06-30 Thread Terry Montgomery

Thanks, Cathy.

Couldn't follow your instructions. They didn't seem to apply or I
misunderstood them.

But I right-clicked on the panel with my name in it and was offered the
option to "unlink > from wife".

Did that and all was well. "from wife" is now greyed out.
Divorce now "divorce absolute".

Highlight the unknown spouse and click Unlink.
Just clicking the marriage information screen can add a spouse/partner

When someone is known by a name other than his given name, I write - for

But what if John James were always called by his second name? If I write
John "James" i would imply that James is not a real name.

What do others do?

This seems to work:  open the Picture Centre and at the top of the
screen click the Browse button and navigate to the folder where your
pictures are saved.  In the list, select the picture you want to
identify.  It will show up on the right-hand side of the screen, under
"Picture List."  Further down that side are 2 arrows labelled
"Next/Previous person using picture."  Click on either of those arrows
and the name of the individual to whom the picture is attached will be
highlighted in the list on the left-hand side of the screen.

That's worked for me, anyway!

[LegacyUG] automerge

Is t possible to alter the criteria for automerge?

I want to merge two files that are almost the same. Trouble is very few
of them have baptisms and automerge requires a baptism date before it
will accept two copies of the same person as being copies. If I could
remove this requirement there would be far fewer items for me to
manually decide.

[LegacyUG] Potential Problems: Surname all Uppercase

2013-12-16 Thread Terry Montgomery
I use Legacy v8 Deluxe
Windows 8

I have always put surnames in Uppercase. I thought that was the proper
thing to do.
Legacy allows you to specify that this will always happen.
But then it will flag a potential problem. This happens regardless of
whether you have Uppercase surnames on or off.
You can tell Legacy on a case-by-case basis that a particular problem is
not a problem, but can I tell it that all uppercase is never a problem?
Not even a potential one.
