Re: [LegacyUG] A question about FAG numbers {user ID]

I think this would be nice… however even though on Find A Grave each memorial
IS a unique number …

There are still issues that can’t be corrected by making the field in “Legacy”
unique

One being duplicate memorials created within Find A Grave and lastly when a
memorial gets merged… That way it still has to be fixed in Legacy after it is
located.

So, in one way the portion of check/repair that locates there error drives us
(the user) to investigate.

In my case I find the duplicate numbers I get in Legacy are from me having
duplicate individuals which I need to merge (here again I find that the
check/routine that catches these duplicates VERY beneficial.

So I guess what I am saying is that I can see advantages to both sides of the
argument.

Kind Regards

Henry

This is not the same as the FAG number as the Fag number is a direct link to
Find a Grave whereas the user ID is connected to naught.

User ID

This field is for any reference number you want to record for this individual.
You can use any combination of letters, numbers and punctuation marks. There
is a tool on the Options > Customize > Other tab where you can automatically
fill the User ID fields for all individuals with the RIN numbers and optional
text. (See Customize - Other for more information.)

After running Check/Repair, I got the following message:

"Duplicate Find a Grave IDs have been found. Please review the duplicate Find
a Grave ID's below to fix them in your file.
==

RIN=23361, Find A Grave ID = 2279477

RIN=23365, Find A Grave ID = 2279477"

I can't figure out how to deal with this. I checked the two individuals with
those RIN's and confirmed that they both use FAG as sources. However, I don't
know what to look for or what to "fix". Does anyone have ideas on this? Thanks!

I have noticed that if I create a Family Group report and any of the parties
has a Shared Event entry the Sentence for their role in the Event is printed
and beneath that the details of the Event, such as "This Event was shared
from Joe Bloggs who also shared it with Fanny Adams (Role) and John Doe".

If I create an Individual report for the same person it only shows the
Sentence for the role and not the detail of who shared it and with whom.

Is there some setting I have missed which allows me to choose, in any
Report, whether or not I want to include the details beneath the Role
Sentence? If there isn't, I would suggest it as an enhancement.

I know Cathy will respond…

But Unless you have re-used the filename nothing will be over-written. Although
you (may) have to relink.

Just put all the media in the same location from now on to avoid media issues.

* Suggestion (even keep a separate folder with duplicates. Just don’t
link to the duplicate location files from within Legacy.
* I don this because I have over 29,000 images with redundant duplicate
copies for backup.

Good Luck

p.s. Remember to backup

Thank you Cathy for your quick response; I have made the media backup, relinked
but this didn't solve my issue. I have not renamed them, nor moved them. So,I
think I need to rephrase my problem.

There are 71 digitized images that WERE on my C drive in the correct folders (a
setup that I have been using for several years). Those images ARE on the June
backup. There were no missing links or images when I did the June backup. Then
I had to take a break from doing any research with this family.

Last weekend I began working on this family again and added many images from a
new resource and did a backup. I get the report that I am now missing 71
digitized images and they are not the new ones that I just added. The links
to the missing 71 are to the correct folders - I have done the relink. and yes,
that is where they are supposed to be. But the images are NOT on the July
backup nor anywhere on my computer EXCEPT in that June backup which is in PC >
Documents > Legacy Family Tree > Data > and then the folder for that particular
family. The relink now connects to the photos in the backup. but the images
are not on my computer other than in that backup. I don't know where those
images went or how they got deleted.

So my question is: How do I get those photos back onto my C drive where they
belong instead of just in a backup. I can't move them, I can't copy and paste
them as I don't see those options available; I can't email them to myself to
resave and then relink.

If I do a media restore, then I will lose the new images I've been doing
recently, correct?

To clarify, I have all my Legacy on my desktop; data is entered only on this
desktop and there is only the one family file.

sigh,

Linda

Make sure Legacy is linked to all the media and then make a new media backup.
Use Tools > Media Relinker to find and relink the missing files.
If you have been renaming files outside of Legacy you'll need to manually fix
each broken link.
If you have just moved them, the Media Relinker will help you relink them
quickly.

The Media Relinker will give you a log file that tells you where the missing
media is expected to be.

Your list of media folders will show [Default Media Folder]\... if the start of
the folder path was the path listed at Options > Customise 6.2 when you started
using that folder. Otherwise it will show the full actual path. If the full
path is the same as what is now at Options > Customise 6.2, you can use Search
> Search and Replace on Lists - Media Folders to change the constant part of
the path to the code. Make sure you only replace the found part of the path.
Make a backup first in case you get one of the settings wrong. Then if you mess
them up you can restore your data backup and try again.
Changing computers or changing the location of your media is very easy if the
Media Folders use the code. You just have to reset 6.2 to the new location and
all media is relinked.

Do check that you haven't been inadvertently using two different family files.
If they're all still on your computer, the ones you've opened will show in the
Recent File list. The Recent File List is found by clicking the L top left
corner of the Legacy screen if the L is larger than the title bar. If it isn't,
you'll see a System Ribbon tab and it's on that instead. It depends on the
Design Style you are using.

Am I missing something or has there been a design change to the
format/layout of the Ancestor Book Report with the latest update (12 July
2021 - Version 9.0.0.393) of Legacy Family Tree?

Prior to the update, when I ran the report, by default, it would identify
the parents of each individual in the report as per the following example

1. Doris Isabel Scrambler, daughter of Robert James Scrambler and
Isabella Jane Burton, was born in 1901 in Nine Mile Creek, Victoria,
Australia and died on 28 May 1975.

After the update, the report no longer includes the parents as follows:

1. Doris Isabel Scrambler was born in 1901 in Nine Mile Creek,
Victoria, Australia and died on 28 May 1975.

I can find no check box option to switch between these two formats so it
seems to me this change has been hard-coded into the report design. However,
I can find nothing in the Revision History to indicate such a change as part
of the latest build.

My preference would be to switch it back to the way it was, or at least
provide the user with option of which format they wish to use.
