[LegacyUG] is there a way to identify data enteries by day entered?

2012-02-16 Thread laurie curtis

Is there a way to identify or generate a list of data entries by a day -- say
yesterday? Like a journal function?

[LegacyUG] TC PPL CB FG clean up

2012-02-08 Thread laurie curtis

In middle of file cleaning project. Overwhelmed by shear number of folders and
files I've accumulated. Creating single master and folding other folders into
it. Tons of TC, PPL, CB, FG folders. Do I need to keep these given my cleaning
project. Would they be recreated based on updated master? Nothing I'm too
afraid to loose I don't think, but want to check with you all before I end up
sorry.Laurie

RE: [LegacyUG] Checking for file DIFFERENCES

2012-01-21 Thread laurie curtis

Using GEDCOM is an interesting approach. Thanks for the suggestion. I have
some files I can try it on. Someone also referenced Intelimerge, but I'm not
sure what that is... Part of legacy? An add on? Another program? I too
bought GenMatcher hoping it would do the trick, but alas it also only searches
for and reports out commonalities, not differences. I'm glad I'm not the only
one with difficulties and I know the Windows O/S makes this worse. I ususally
try to put the date worked on in the title of the file save and this helps
some, but don't always remember to change it. REally hoping there would be a
simple solution. Maybe in a future version of Legacy??? Laurie

[LegacyUG] Checking for file DIFFERENCES

2012-01-20 Thread laurie curtis

I’m made a mess of things and cannot be the only one with
this problem. Really lost the plot with version control and have managed
to enter new data in to back up versions of files. Also because every time a
file opens, it gets a new date, I don’t always know what file is the newest
–just know which one I opened most recently. This compounds the version
control issue when I THINK I’m entering data in most current file, but entering
it in a back up. Because I’m afraid to lose what I’ve done, I save the
backup with a new name. Now I’m in a real mess.

Would love to know if anyone has figured out a way to
compare files for what is DIFFERENT. I know we can compare for what is
the same, but that won’t help me figure out which files have new data?
Thoughts for how to get myself out of this mud hole? Would also
really welcome ideas for how people handle file management – I obviously need
some lessons!!
