Anna, You've been hit by the hijackers attacking Yahoo groups. Please change your email password right away. I've also heard that if you stay signed in to the Yahoo site that makes you more vulnerable - everyone with Yahoo - make sure you sign out when you're done visiting the website, email, groups, etc. Sincerely, Sherry Technical Support Legacy Family Tree On Thu, Mar 28, 2013 at 10:36 AM, Anne Outterson annedoutter...@yahoo.co.uk wrote: http://www.restaura Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). Re: [LegacyUG] ~Anne Outterson~
Hi Sherry, Am I right in assuming that it is mainly 'web' based email programs, like Hotmail, Yahoo and Google that are being hacked. I can't remember 'private' type email programs, like Thunderbird, Seamonkey, Pegasus, etc being a problem. 'Web' and 'Private' may be the wrong terminology, so I guess it is far more complicated than just that. Just trying to work out which are the main type of email/newsgroup programs to avoid. Re: [LegacyUG] ~Anne Outterson~
Yahoo mail was hit hard a few months ago - you'll find most of these are from yahoo accounts as well as ymail and rocketmail. I have seen these come from att, msn, hotmail, aol, gmail, etc. It's the web email that gets hit and generally all ISPs have access to email via the web. Never click on a link or open an attachment that even comes from someone you know without adequate explanation about why they're sending the link or attachment. But even then we need to be careful as the hackers keep getting smarter and smarter and are now including short messages or sig lines in the emails they're sending. The person whose account was hijacked will probably find the email in their Sent folder. Make sure your security software is kept up-to-date (should catch a problem if you click on a link or an attachment comes through) and make sure you sign out when you're not actually using your webmail account. On with Legacy issues now..
