Re: [LegacyUG] Importing info from someone else's research
Which is one of the reasons the default option for an import is to import into a new Family File. Then you can review the file to make sure the data is valid and in good order before you import it into your own data file. We have an article in our Knowledge Base on "File Import and Clean Up" at http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00922 Sincerely, Sherry Technical Support Legacy Family Tree On Thu, May 26, 2016 at 12:09 AM, carogene wrote: > But do check his info before you import it, not everyone believes in > proving all the links. > > Carolyn > > -- > -- LegacyUserGroup mailing list LegacyUserGroup@legacyusers.com To manage your subscription and unsubscribe http://legacyusers.com/mailman/listinfo/legacyusergroup_legacyusers.com Archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/

Sorky's Place - Genealogy - 1 Family Tree Helper's main purpose is converting TXT to GED file with almost any text layout as it has user configurable rules to identify spouses, children and events. Ask the fellow researcher how they produced the file and if they can send you a Gedcom file, if it was produced from a genealogy program. If not, the only way to save typing would be to copy and paste each item individually into Legacy, and typing might be faster, depending on how fast you can type. -- Keep well, Steve Hayes Blog:http://hayesgreene.wordpress.com Web:http://www.khanya.org.za/famhist1.htm E-mail: sha...@dunelm.org.uk -- LegacyUserGroup mailing list LegacyUserGroup@legacyusers.com To manage your subscription and unsubscribe http://legacyusers.com/mailman/listinfo/legacyusergroup_legacyusers.com Archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/

But do check his info before you import it, not everyone believes in proving all the links. Re: [LegacyUG] Importing info from someone else's research
Brenda: Have the fellow researcher send you a GEDCOM file of his data. Then you can import that into Legacy. If he has Legacy 8, then it would be better if he could send you a Legacy file with the people you have in common - no import, you just do a merge of the two databases. [LegacyUG] Importing info from someone else's research
A fellow researcher had some of my ancestors' info (documented), and sent it to me via an .rtf file. How can I put that document into my Legacy (8.0) family tree, so I don't have to enter all of that data manually? (It looks just like the descendant list was made with the Legacy program.) If I have to convert it into a GEDCOM file first, how do I do that? Thank you for taking the time to read about this.
