Its already built into Windows. Type a command prompt SFC/SCANNOW.

(That's the shorthand for System File Checker utility.)

Legacy 8 is slower than 7.5 and took me some time to get used to the slight
lag. But it reAlly should only be an extra few seconds and not getting hung
up. Funny how spoiled we can get with super fast response times and
waiting only A few seconds becomes an annoyance haha!Email or call
customer support at legacy since it is the only program being affected in
your case.

How big is your file (how many individuals)?
Which version of Windows do you have? How much RAM (memory)?

Have you done File File Maintenance Check/Repair and Compact Family File?
(Backup First!)

Have you been maintaining your computer with defragging and running a
registry cleaner such as CClean to remove the junk that accumulates on

Do you have any other programs running in the background that are memory hogs?

I've run some really large files in Legacy and haven't had any

In comparison to 7.5 there is a opening lag, quite noticeable and
occasionally it gives me a not responding. I am running a Windows 7

I have exactly the same number of persons in 7.5 so that has no bearing.
Maintenance has been done.
Programs running has no bearing either as both 7.5 and 8 are running at

am trying to do when that happens.
My point is that it is real and happens. Not that it bothers me greatly.

Could be the size of the file - but when I just opened v8 and then
quickly v7.5, v8 still opened before v7.5 did same file (in fact,
the v8 file has about 25 more individuals)

Some people have reported that it's slower opening a large file, but I
haven't noticed any difference.

Please do the steps I recommended to help speed things up. Compact
File compacts more than the Check/Repair plus defragging your computer
and cleaning up the registry can make a world of difference on how
programs run on it.

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 8 Deluxe slow or not responding

2014-10-24 Thread Bob Austen
This is most likely a system issue. I generally live on the edge with my
computer with many windows open. I now use an i7, Windows 8.1, 64 bit, 16 GB
RAM. Legacy 7.5 takes about 1-2 seconds (varies) to open with a file of
67,000+, Legacy 8 - 1-3 seconds (varies) opening a file of 400.000+. So even
file size doesn't appear to an issue. I have several other programs running as
well. OK, so 3 seconds is 50% slower that 2 seconds

I compacted the file and turned off the Potential Problems, and is about the
same under 3 seconds. Closing the other programs didn't change the time either.

I had to upgrade my computer from Pentium on WinXP, 1GB RAM - now that was slow.

Bob

[LegacyUG] Legacy 8 Deluxe slow or not responding

2014-10-23 Thread June
Since I updated Legacy 8 I have found that it is really really slow and 2
out of 3 times it says not responding, although if I leave it, it eventually
opens or closes.

I have no issues with other programmes and so wonder what I could try to
resolve this.

Thank you

June
