Re: [LegacyUG] Publishing with Legacy tools

The best way to learn the Publisher is to try it. Add some chapters
(reports), and do a preview and maybe create a PDF file for review. Printing
would only be done for a final version that you are happy with.

Some tips:
Chapters to include -
1. Introduction - explains what is in report to include major ancestors, an
overview of major family names
2. Dedication chapter
3. Descendant book report chapter - from oldest ancestor
4. Descendant chart chapter from oldest ancestor
5. Ancestor chart chapter from youngest person
6. Ancestor book report from youngest person
7. 4 or 5 chapters of grandparents & parents
 A. Family group sheet for GPa
 B. Chronology of key GPa
 C. ScrapBook of pictures for GPa
 D. Descendant chart
Repeat chapters using 7 above for GPa’s/Family on both sides
8. 2 column index at end
9. 2 column location index at end

If u do this for one primary family, you will probably create a couple hundred
pages book.

I have published 5 books like this with color hardback cover, 8x10, that had
300-800 pages in the book.

I would recommend you consider www.hula.com for publishing your book. A 300 pg
book will cost about $30-50 a FPS that is very reasonable price.

I have a more detail guide to publishing a book. Send me an email if you would
need more details.

[LegacyUG] Publishing with Legacy tools

2017-09-27 Thread Linda Greethurst
I have been trying to get 5 generations of one limb as completely
researched as possible, pictures and documents scanned in, maps, as many
events as I could find, good documentations, etc. in anticipation of
"publishing" this info for Christmas gifts this year.

Right now I have several notebooks; but everything in the notebook is also
on the computer. I don't want to make multiple copies of the notebooks,
nor do people have the space for storing all those notebooks. So, I want
to use the Legacy publishing tools.

I would really appreciate helpful hints and pitfalls to avoid. I'm not
sure which report I want to use yet. I am familiar with 3 of the styles
offered by Legacy - but not the multiple lines of descent report (how it
looks or is set up).

The other question - is the publishing center used to just so"free wheel"
your own version of what to include and in what order? And then you don't
use the other formats?

Later on, after all this is done, I MIGHT be interested in creating a web
page - expeciallyl for the younger generations.. But this Christmas gift
is a priority now.
