Re: [LegacyUG] Suggestion for Too Many Emails

2017-09-11 Thread Jill A Baty
Wendy, Outlook on a laptop uses filters quite nicely and redirects as you
suggest into sub folders (although with today's more powerful search mechanism,
subfolders or directories filters and rules are becoming archaic.) However
Outlook on an iPhone doesn't redirect using filters as easily, so separate
email addresses work better. And of course, using an iPhone, you don't have to
remember to look at the other account because all accounts are shown in Mail.

Jill

Did you keep the "welcome" email that was sent to you when you first
joined this mailing list?  There is a link in that to your account
settings, and you can change your email address there.  That email also
tells you your password, if you've not changed it since.

If you didn't keep that email, you can go to
http://legacyusers.com/mailman/options/legacyusergroup_legacyusers.com
and log in there.  There's a password reminder, and an unsubscribe
button, there too.

You could manage your emails better, so you don't feel swamped by the
list mail, instead of changing your subscribed address. Most
services/programs have filters (or rules) that let you identify list
mail (ie, mail sent TO the list address), and then move that mail away
from the Inbox. I wrote some instructions for another mailing list years
ago, which can be adapted to any mailing list - you'll find them at
http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wendyh65/How-to.htm#RuleFilter

The advantage of using a filter like this, instead of changing email
addresses, is that you don't have to remember to go check that other
address. It is all there in the one account, with the list mail away
from your personal mail so you can ignore it and get on with other
things until you're ready to concentrate on it.

Hope this helps.  :-)

I agree. I've been doing this for years. I use gmail for Legacy and
it saves all the frustration of having dozens of emails coming in to
my personal email every day and having to sort through them all. I
usually look at my gmail account once a day, scan the topics, and
just view the ones I want to look at. Eazy Peazy.

I use this approach with my "advertisement email".  It's
dedicated to ads.  I never look at it until I'm going to a store
or shopping for something in particular.  Then I search and see
if there are any coupons availble.

I've just joined Legacy UG and already being swamped. I have a G-mail
account - how do I change from my normal email and get UG mail to go to
the G-mail?

[LegacyUG] Suggestion for Too Many Emails

Create an email using gmail or yahoo that is only dedicated for Legacy User
Group.

Don't look at it until you need to. Then either ask a question, or search
through the previous emails to find your answer.
