[LegacyUG] fixing duplicates
I did a report to Find Duplicates, it seems I have a lot of them. I am not sure about other naming traditions, but Italians repeat names constantly. So I see the duplicates by the RIN Numbers. Although when I look at my index of my surnames I do not see duplicates. So is looking at the RIN numbers on the duplicate report the correct way to fix my tree? No. You should be looking at the information for each individual. If you're not sure if they're the same, use the Tagging option so you can later bring those up in the Name List by searching that tag number. Then you'll see the 'pairs' next to each other and you can click from one to the other to see if they're the same person or not. Then you can use Manual Merge to merge them. That's when you would use the RIN's to bring them up in the Merge window. --- JL Beeken JLog - simple computer technology for genealogists http://www.jgen.ws/jlog/ On 12/11/2012 2:07 PM, MJ SA wrote: I did a report to Find Duplicates, it seems I have a lot of them. Re: [LegacyUG] fixing duplicates
You could also view your family file in split view...that way you can pull up RIN numbers which appear to be duplicates side-by-side.
