If you have been using Legacy 8 and not duplicating Legacy 8 additions and corrections in Legacy 7.5, I don't think you can because they are different. Legacy 7.5 can be converted to Legacy 8, but I think the converse is not true. If you have added nothing new to Legacy 8, then your old Legacy 7.5 backup can be restored. If you no longer have Legacy 7.5 on your computer, I believe you can still download it, and then restore your Legacy 7.5 backup. Others on the list probably know for sure and can advise you. If this bug is the reason your date is not showing, then it is nothing you are doing wrong. It will be fixed in time. :-) Wendy CE WOOD said the following on 31/10/2014 13:02: You're not doing anything wrong. This is another instance of a *_major_* bug in Events overrides. It has been reported before, but not in the Marriage Event. How discouraging that Legacy 8 is unusable in its major strong suit, which used to be allowing for individual tweaking. They have s many bugs to fix, create more when they fix some, and seem unable to keep up. No wonder smart people still use 7.5. There is truth in the old adage, if it ain't broke. Legacy 7.5 is wonderful, but they have so much to do trying to keep 8 going that they can't support 7.5 any more. All the bells and whistles in the world don't matter when you can't do the basics. It was certainly released much too early. I hope they get their act together soon. I know of more that 50 people who have abandoned Legacy 8, some reverting to 7.5 via the less than ideal means of a GEDCOM, and others who need a stable database. SIGH! Why spoil a good track record with this? Hang in there or revert to 7.5 if need be until they get on track. CE From: genealogylady...@verizon.net To: legacyusergroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: [LegacyUG] sentence override Date: Thu, 30 Oct 2014 18:41:27 -0400 I must be doing something wrong. I am using Legacy 8.0.8.454 on a Windows 7 computer. I have added a Marriage License event to a person instead of a couple since I don't plan on adding the spouse (unless he is otherwise connected to the family). Without the override it says she got a license to marry herself. So in the override I add [FirstName] obtained a license to marry [Desc] [onDate]. where [Desc] is the name of the spouse. I expect to see that she obtained a license to marry so and so on such and such a date. But the date doesn't show up. Just that she obtained a license to marry so and so. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. -- Kirstin Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). Wendy, you're awesome in your replies - keep up the good work! The subject line was [LegacyUG] Dates on Event Sentences The original query posted sounds just like yours. Elsie said: I was entering some events today when I noticed that Event Sentences were leaving out the dates even when the Event Sentence Definition includes dates. For example: The Event Sentence Description reads [firstname] [desc] [onDate] for “David was in school on 7 Jun 1900.†The sentence I get is “David was in school on.†Michelle and Brian from Legacy Support posted a couple of responses in that thread, saying it was a known bug. Brian said just yesterday in this thread: The date problem is restricted to custom sentences using the override tab, dates are not included using the [date] or [ondate] fields there. It does not affect the vast majority who use only the standard sentences nor does it affect the saving of the dates in the database. Hope this helps. :-) Wendy Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). Are you sure ou haven't accidentally left a space on the Override tab, so that as far as Legacy is concerned it is still active. Thanks, Rita in South Carolina Rita, You say that you *removed* the sentence, exactly how? I have just looked at mine. I changed the [Name] to [Full name], closed the screen reopened the edit and the description etc. were missing. I would expect this because the sentence override changes the *whole* of the sentence and I had added nothing for those fields. I then deleted the [Full name] in the top box and it reverted to the default [Name] showing all the fields.
