RE: [LegacyUG] Apology

2011-10-24 Thread Bernhard Scholz
Robert,

I don't see any reason why you should apologize.

So many users write in HTML.

Why not you too.

I use only use the plain text format due to the higher security.

Every user has the possibilty to chose which format to use when answering.

Don't make any thoughts about the format you write in.

Bernhard

To everyone, I meant to send my last post in plain text. Maybe I should give up
trying to remember plain text, and just use my favorite font. (Courier, this
font) I do apologize for causing any problems.

Thank you.

Re: [LegacyUG] Apology to all

2011-02-14 Thread Ward Walker
Yes, keep posting. Learn from mistakes but don't take complaints personally.

I think what sometimes comes across as intolerance is partly due to the fact
that this is a very busy list. It takes time to scan all the posts.
Following all the standard rules helps streamline this process, increasing
the chances of quality help.

I also think that enforcing a rule should fall more often to a single
reminder by a moderator at Legacy, and less often to multiple reminders by
fellow listers.

While we all have had 'lapses', rules such as the following are pretty
common among mail lists and are worthy of a pause and proofread before
posting:
  - plain text; no attachments
  - trim excess from bottom of thread
  - don't hijack threads, and craft a meaningful subject line
  - on topic
  - respectful
  - attempt to find answers in the list archive and/or Legacy Help
  - ensure 'Read Receipt' is turned off

  Ward

P.S.: _Almost_ replied in HTML! Good thing I checked my checklist. :-)

Ditto to what Paula said :-) I never mind those 'lapses' because if one
person is asking a question or having a problem, I guarantee you that there
is at least one other person who needs help with the same thing but was
afraid to ask; the group is formed so that we can help each other in
whatever way that we can. Most people are extremely helpful and tolerant.
Don't we tell our kids to ask questions because 'how else are you going to
learn anything?'

'Most' of Legacy support is very tolerant as well except when they receive
complaints and then they are obliged to chime in. Tim, I have no idea what
you might be talking about; I don't recall you ever posting anything
remotely 'off topic' haha!

Have a great week everyone! Kathy

The list is unmoderated, for very good reasons. If moderated someone, like
Sherry, is going to have to read every message and then release those that are
acceptable to the list so that the rest of us can get our copy.

Sherry lives in a time zone that is some way West of Greenwich which is some
distance away from those of us that are East of Greenwich. This means that
messages are only going to get released some hours after they were posted. Guess
what this causes?!? Right! Further messages from the OPs who suddenly wonder why
they can't see the message they posted perhaps 14-16 hours earlier.

So, please, no enforced moderation! Comments yes. But moderation, No!
