Sue,

A bigamous marriage is not a marriage (U.K.). With the one which I have I
created a Bigamous Marriage Event, particularly since in this case the man
was convicted of the criminal offence and imprisoned.

RE: [LegacyUG] Bigamy

2013-11-11 Thread Michele/Support
Sue,
I will tell you what I did in my own family where this happened. Even though
the man was already married at the time he married again, that second marriage
(the illegal one) still had a marriage license and certificate. I recorded
this as a marriage and used the license/certificate as the source. In the
marriage notes I explained the entire situation. In my case he never went back
and got a divorce from the first lady so there was no legal remarriage. In
your case I would have a divorce event within the marriage events of the first
wife using the divorce decree as the source. I would also record the
subsequent marriage as an additional marriage event under the second wife using
that marriage license/certificate as the source. What I want is for the
person’s timeline to be correct even if part of the timeline is illegal :)

I have a relative who “married bigamously. After the subsequent divorce he
then married properly. How would you suggest I enter this bigamous marriage so
that the sequence will show on reports?
Thanks in anticipation.

RE: [LegacyUG] Bigamy

2013-11-11 Thread Kurt Kneeland
I have an extreme case of a man with 14 wives, many of them simultaneous, and
37 children. These were all legal as he was an early leader of the Mormon
church in Utah. Makes for a lengthy chronology/timeline.

I don't think I've had a case of illegal bigamy, but I think I would enter them
as a marriage with a note on the marriage record. The note does show on the
Chronology Tab and if the option is selected on the Chronology page(s) of the
Individual Report.

One thing I've noticed is that the marriage status info shows up as an
annotation on the marriage event on the Chronology Tab and on the Chronology
page(s) of the Individual Report. On the latter, the option to include it
needs to be selected. Death of a spouse will show up separately in its place
on the timeline, but a divorce or annulment has to be redundantly entered as a
separate event in order to show at its own place on the timeline.
