So you have to tell Legacy what you want it to do. Linking is not the same as merging - a spouse or child of a person in the file would be linked, unless you included that linked individual in the drag and drop. Personally, I would not drag an unlinked individual if I had a choice. I much prefer to include at least one person in the drag who is already in the other file. Michele, What do you mean by “drag them into their relationship”? If you have the same person in both files then when you drag him to the other file you should get a merge screen so you can merge the info you want to the new file and he should be where you want him. Bill, To write detailed instructions is probably harder than to try it out! Go to Tools>Merge>Manual Merge, I suggest that you agree to the back-up (unless you have just done one) and when you get to the merge page you will see a Help Button. This context help button, and it's links, give comprehensive instructions on how it works. If you then have problems please feel free to come back. I suggest that after completing the merge, you check the Index to ensure that the high numbered RIN has been deleted, if not you can delete it.
