This way I know who she is and it never shows up in any reports. I can easily change it to the correct name when that is established and doesn't involve any cludges or workarounds. Secondly, If you are using Legacy's "Search the Internet" feature, when you select the search you wish to use you are presented with the opportunity to change the name to whatever you wish to search on so it doesn't really matter what is in the Database for a last name. Just enter what you want to search on. This works for Find-A-Grave and any other search. -- Gene Young Researching Young, Harer, Cox & Sallada With Legacy Family Tree http://myyoungs.atspace.com/index.htm Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). Re: [LegacyUG] Find A Grave for Legacy
Jerry, For Find A Grave, searching on the person's married name is better. Some graves have both the maiden and married names but most don't. Thus not having last name is not a big deal when searching FindAGrave. This is not true for other sites. Re: [LegacyUG] Find A Grave for Legacy
I understand why Sheila does what she does, but I put the Wife of etc. in the name field itself, not the suffix field. I detest putting the word unknown in the name field because I want to provide a snippet of whatever is known about the person. However, I can see the possibility it might make it more difficult to find a match on a website, tc. But if the name (or part of the name) is not known, what would it find anyway? RE: [LegacyUG] Find A Grave for Legacy
Sheila, This is the kind of thing that can happen when you use a Legacy field for something for which it is not intended. I don’t know how it might affect your reports, but using third party software and some of the features in Legacy will be impacted. A big part of my research is done using the “Customized Search” feature and using the name fields for anything but names will certainly impact this feature. You need to decide which you want, a database that will use all its features or one that has some of the features that are not available. Bobby From: Sheila Burks [mailto:sburks...@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2012 4:03 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: [LegacyUG] Find A Grave for Legacy I hope this isn't considered off topic as this is to use with Legacy. Anyone using Find a Grave for Legacy?? I am trying but it seems as if your names must follow strict guidelines. In my database I have added a comment in the suffix field for some. Such as "wife of" if I don't have a last name. However this seems to throw off the extracting of names for the purpose of matching them with Find A Grave memorials. I have too many this way to correct them plus I really find it helpful.
