Thanks Paul. That is a good preparatory step.
Everything seems to have gone fine except for a group of "event sources"
that that came from SSDI. I'm trying to figure out what the pattern is so
I can edit my GEDCOM.

RE: [LegacyUG] Moving FROM FTM

2012-03-01 Thread David C Abernathy
First of all, another program data cannot be imported into Legacy, without
making a GEDCOM from within the other program. It has been misleading, that
Legacy can directly import from the other programs. If one is using or has been
using a different program, you would think that they would also already know
how to make a GEDCOM, from that program.

The instructions posted at the Help Center are instructions on making the
GEDCOM from the other listed programs. The instructions for FTM 2010 are also
valid for 2011 and 2012, so the Help Center web page needs to be updated.

Hi Rick,

The only piece of advice I have is to run Tools---> Compact File on your FTM
file prior to exporting. This checks, and sometimes fixes any data problems
that might exist in your FTM file. I believe Compact file is under Tools in
all versions of FTM since at least FTM 2006 (v16).

It's similar to Check/Repair in Legacy.
