Re: [LegacyUG] Printing Burial Addresses

2010-11-22 Thread Robert E. Carneal
To confuse the issue more, I have an Aunt for whom I got her dates
from the headstone.  But on another stone placed at the family site, I
got her parents, children, and grandchildren from it.  So this is the
ONLY time I ever use Cemetery Event twice for the same person.

Re: [LegacyUG] Printing Burial Addresses

2010-11-22 Thread Ron Ferguson
Larry,

Yes, Births, Marriages, Deaths, may be regarded as Vital Events and Burial
is yet another (not really vital though).

The "+" Burial Address is part of the Burial Event which you can use should
you so wish, but so is the Location Field, which can be used to complement
the Address, as Sherry suggested, or to hold the full location/address. The
choice is yours.

BTW. without wishing to get back into a discussion on locations, I have no
problem with the USA 4 field convention of City, County, State, Country,
when used for American locations, but it simply does not work for the UK and
many/(most) other parts of the world. But, even in America, this doesn't
stop one having more than 4 fields, just that the last 4 should follow the
convention, together with the awful double commas for missing bits!

I guess I'm more confused than I thought I was. On "Family" view, one
of the lines I display is Buried where I put the date and the
controversial four USA locations (City, County, State, Country). Then
I click the "+", select Burial Address, and enter all of the
information I have on the cemetery. Is this the "Burial Event"? I
think where I get confused is the difference between Address fields

Re: [LegacyUG] Printing Burial Addresses

2010-11-22 Thread John B
Larry,

In the "Options for Individual Reports" window there are two check boxes
'Addr for birth, chr, death, bur, marr.' and
'Event addresses'

If these are checked, then your burial addresses will be shown on that
Individual's report. So there is provision for using the information
provided in the address fields.

It is a pity that the same options are not provided in other reports,
e.g. Event Report.

When a person is commemorated on a gravestone but buried elsewhere, I
would rather create and use a Cemetery Event than rely on notes in the
existing Burial Event.
Like Ron, I put the full cemetery address in the Location field.

Re: [LegacyUG] Printing Burial Addresses

2010-11-22 Thread Sherry/Support
At this point, there's not much you can do with Event Addresses other
than create an address list or mailing labels.

I'm really hoping that in v8, the programmers will give us more
flexibility with reporting on those addresses entered. I'm not privy
to the programmers plans.

The only way to get a report right now on addresses is to use the
Address Labels report under Books/Other. You can select Event
Addresses on Who to Print tab and on the Custom Size tab, select to
make it in a report format (not on label sheets), but the report will
just be a list of addresses with no other information.

In the Master Address List, you can get a list of individuals using
that particular address - i.e., who you have linked that cemetery
address to - but no more information beyond that.

Or you can tag all individuals in the "show list" and then show the
individuals on that tag number and print that list with up to 30
fields of data you wish to include, which would give you a lot more
info than just printing the "Show List" group.

The Event report will give you a lot more information about the
Cemetery event, particularly who's using it!

Sincerely,
Sherry

Re: [LegacyUG] Printing Burial Addresses

2010-11-22 Thread John B
Sherry has shown us a workaround for obtaining Burial Addresses,
however, it should not be necessary to use such a 'workaround'.

If an Address is entered next to the Burial location, using the + icon,
it appears on a report for that Individual, provided that 'Event
Addresses' is ticked, just as one would expect. So surely that is where
Legacy intended the address should be entered.

Individual reports have an option to include Event addresses, but
unfortunately, there is no option to include Addresses in an Event
report. Surely the easiest solution to this problem would be for the
programmers to add an option to "Include Address" when printing an Event
Report? This would be useful for all events, such as Census etc, and not
just for Burials.

That's a good suggestion Sherry.

I'd like to say that it would be better if we could select the address
fields within the "+" areas to include on List Reports, rather than
having to use this workaround, but in the meantime, its a good option.

Re: [LegacyUG] Printing Burial Addresses

2010-11-22 Thread Sherry/Support
Jerry,

In the location field on the Individual's Information window, I enter
the juridictional locations - South Bend, St. Joseph, Indiana.

Then I use a Cemetery event for the Burial data:

Description Riverview Cemetery
Date (I leave this blank)
Location South Bend, St. Joseph, Indiana
Notes (I enter the address, plot info and anything else
about the cemetery)

I can then create a detailed Event report of all cemeteries

I have asked the programmers for an option to save the report to CSV
so it can be opened in a spreadsheet program and sorted by cemetery.

Or options to sort by specific fields.

You can also do a search using the Detailed Search tab for Event with
"Description > Contains > " to bring up a list of
all individuals buried in that cemetery. Then you can Print that list
with up to 30 fields of data. I include the Event: Cemetery in the
Index Report.

Or if you do a search of all people with Cemetery Event, then you can
save the Index Report to CSV and sort it.

Sincerely,
Sherry

Hi Sherry. Do you mean that you put the burial location place (ex:
city) in the buried location field - then you don't use the extra
address (+ field) for the cemetery at all, but instead enter that
information as a cemetery event? Just trying still to figure our what
will work best for us, not only with Legacy, but also in how it
transfers to our website. Thanks, --Jerry

Better yet - I enter the burial information in as a Cemetery Event.
You can do so much more with the Event Report than you can with either
the Addresses or Locations.

Re: [LegacyUG] Printing Burial Addresses

2010-11-22 Thread Ron Ferguson
Leo,

That will not work if, as I suspect, the burial addresses are in the Address
Book and not the Locations.

I suggest, Scott that you have look and play with View>Reports>Name Tags,
which can be displayed in a report format.

Another reason why it's a good idea to put full addresses in the
Location field! (As Ron Ferguson and I and probably several others do.)
