My colours stay red whether I am in scrolling view or not - I've looked at
changing colours in Windows as Sherry suggested but Windows are quite
adamant that whilst changing font colours and other colours is quite
possible it will only change Windows and will not affect any programmes! I
cannot work out why there is a difference on people's views unless there is
some kind of setting in Legacy that we still haven't figured out.

not white. In my case, I’m using Win 8.1, 64-bit, L8, build 367. This is

the fact that *none* of the text turns white at any time under the

Columns or Grid View - there seem to be several of us having similar

It would be interesting to find out just how many people are seeing / not

I think this is a case of apples and oranges and you are both right in
your contexts. In the normal children column view Kirsty is seeing that
the highlighted children' names etc remain the colour for males, females
and unknown gender (I see the same). I think Sherry is talking about the
children list in Scrolling/Grid view where the gender colours do not
apply and where the text colour for a highlighted child changes to white.

Sherry - the letters underneath are not white - they are still the same colour
(either red or blue depending on whether it is male or female).

John - I wasn't reporting an issue - I was asking if anyone else had the same
highlight colour and whether I could change it at all. I have already reported
an unrelated problem to Support who are working through it for me. This was
just a query as to whether there was something I could change in settings.
Obviously the blue highlight cannot be changed - now I have to work out why my
letters are not changing to white when the line is highlighted as Sherry says
they should.

As I posted I am on .364 - the latest version concerned the Geo problems - the
highlight and the non changing colour for the letters has been there since Day
1 and has no changed in each update. There are always teething problems with
all new updates on nearly every programme - it is just a matter of sorting
through what can be altered on this side of the fence.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy v8 - Highlighted colour

2013-12-20 Thread Sherry/Support
I wonder if it has anything to do with Windows settings? I know that
our programmers don't have any control over the highlight color (sure
wish they could make it lighter!). On both my Vista laptop and my Win7
desktop, the letters turn white when the row is highlighted.

I tried several color schemes in Legacy and having the gender colored
red for females and blue for males and again, it's always white under
the highlight.

My favorite color scheme is Brown Gradient.

The only thing I can suggest is playing around with Legacy color
schemes and Windows color schemes.

My email was not a complaint about “weird colours” so much as a confirmation
that another user also has the issue that text color underneath a highlight is
not white. In my case, I’m using Win 8.1, 64-bit, L8, build 367. This is
happening in family view when a child (in best-fit view) is highlighted by a

Sherry,
I have gone to the Brown Gradient Colours now to see if it makes a
difference (I had my own colours in place as I had set them up for 7.5) but
in grid view the blue highlight on the first child is still red and does
not change to white.

There is no highlight by using and of the columns view or the best fit view
but I like the information on the grid view. Also you cannot scroll with
the mouse on this view unless you go to the Mother, then the Father, then
back to the Mother - and then the mouse scroll works (I realise I can use
the scroll bar on the right hand side but the mouse is an automation
reaction!)

If I go to the two, three or best fit view and right click on a child the
highlight colour is bright blue and the writing underneath is still red. I
set the colours for text males as blue and females as red with Unknown as
black - I assume this would not have anything to do with it

At the moment I am on .364 - the later build looked as though it was mainly
concerning the geo basis but I can try that build if you think it will make
any difference.

Also the highlight is still there on the Potential Problems screen as well.

(As an aside I also miss the two click - it is probably force of habit but
everything on my computer has my brain trained to double click to open) to
my mind it is a time saving issue more than anything else (albeit will be
argued by some that the time taken to do two clicks to edit someone from
the child list is minimal it is obvious that others are also finding it
frustrating. Do you think that it could ever be brought back?

When you click on a child in either scrolling or the original view,
that does move the child to the focus spot.

You would scroll through the list to view the child you want to get
more info on. You can't edit in that list except by a right click and
selecting Edit - or by moving the child to focus.

I'm not talking about the highlight changing to white - I'm talking
about the letters changing to white.

The highlight is going to stay blue unless you can convince Microsoft
otherwise - good luck with that!

There is highlight on the grid view because it's a grid view. Like
a spreadsheet or the Index or Descendant view

Double or single click will move the child to focus. A right click
gives you an option to Edit.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy v8 - Highlighted colour

2013-12-19 Thread John B. Lisle

Marion,
Let me comment on 2 side items you mention ...
1/ Every new build of Legacy right now is fixing many issues. You may see
a focus in the announcements on a particular issue, but right now, a lots
of little tweaks are coming in as a response to issues raised on this
list and elsewhere. Maybe hold back a day to make sure there are no
humongous problems, but best to move forward. We have seen people
reporting on issues this week on the initial L8 build as they never
updated.
-- When you report an issue with Legacy on this list, please try to
announce what version of Legacy yo are reporting again, what build, what
Windows OS you are using. It turns out that some of the folks with
problems updating the GeoDB had the problem because they were using a
Windows 7 32 bit OS. And that made a difference.
2/ I was one of the loudest grumblers on the Test team when the
programmers had to take out double click navigation. By now, my fingers
have learned single click and actually now prefer it. Double-click
navigation has always been somewhat un-reliable in Legacy but with the
new L8 Family View it was completely unusable. Sigh... So, no, I do not
think it can, or should, come back.
john.

Marion,

Let me comment on 2 side items you mention ...

1/ Every new build of Legacy right now is fixing many issues. You may see a
focus in the announcements on a particular issue, but right now, a lots of
little tweaks are coming in as a response to issues raised on this list and
elsewhere. Maybe hold back a day to make sure there are no humongous problems,
but best to move forward. We have seen people reporting on issues this week on
the initial L8 build as they never updated.

-- When you report an issue with Legacy on this list, please try to announce
what version of Legacy yo are reporting again, what build, what Windows OS you
are using. It turns out that some of the folks with problems updating the GeoDB
had the problem because they were using a Windows 7 32 bit OS. And that made a
difference.

2/ I was one of the loudest grumblers on the Test team when the programmers had
to take out double click navigation. By now, my fingers have learned single
click and actually now prefer it. Double-click navigation has always been
somewhat un-reliable in Legacy but with the new L8 Family View it was
completely unusable. Sigh... So, no, I do not think it can, or should, come
back.

2013-12-19 Thread 2marion wimps
Sherry - the letters underneath are not white - they are still the same
colour (either red or blue depending on whether it is male or female).

John - I wasn't reporting an issue - I was asking if anyone else had the
same highlight colour and whether I could change it at all. I have already
reported an unrelated problem to Support who are working through it for
me. This was just a query as to whether there was something I could change
in settings. Obviously the blue highlight cannot be changed - now I have to
work out why my letters are not changing to white when the line is
highlighted as Sherry says they should.

As I posted I am on .364 - the latest version concerned the Geo problems -
the highlight and the non changing colour for the letters has been there
since Day 1 and has no changed in each update. There are always teething
problems with all new updates on nearly every programme - it is just a
matter of sorting through what can be altered on this side of the fence.

Hi Marion,

There is no way to change the highlight colour.

But you can change the colour of the text for
male and female by clicking on a child when in
Colour Change Mode. I think you need to be
viewing the children in columns rather than the scrolling grid to do this.

But for me the text under the highlight goes
white in all colour schemes I've tried.

It's got nothing to do with the Design Style that
only affects the colour and style of the Ribbon.

The Tabs for Legacy Home/Family/Pedigree etc are
controlled by the Options Ribbon Tab Style and Tab Colour.

The colours for the rest of the screen are
controlled by the Options Ribbon - Change Colours
where you can choose another colour scheme
entirely or adjust the one you are using by
clicking on the bit of the screen you want to
change. Some things are at other Interface
options at Options - Customise section 9.

Changing the background colour of the Scrolling
grid can make the names hard to read.

Would it help to make the font bigger? You can
set a minimum size for the fonts at Options - Customise 10.1

2013-12-18 Thread 2marion wimps
It seems that the scrolling grid is the only place where the highlight
occurs on the Children's View (apart from the Potential Problems list)

Yes it does matter (I do not care about pretty - I am purely about
practical) - if you right click on the person it only gives you the first
name of the child - I am looking at the RIN number. Sex, Birth Date and
Birth Place plus Death and Death Place - important information required
when checking records and I don't need to keep on putting the child into
the main screen to see those details - I want to see all of the names and
details at the same time - which was why I was asking if anyone else had
the problem or could it be changed.

For me the text underneath the highlight does not change colour - if I
could make it white that would help but I still haven't found a way to do
that either - and I have played around with changing the various colours
and fonts to make for easier reading.

I have a lot of problems reading through the Windows highlights in
every program that has rows to highlight!. I scan the list for what I
want before selecting it.

If I need to read something in the row that's highlighted, I just move

I know this won't work in the scrolling list if you have only one child.

However, in the scrolling list, aren't you seeing the highlighted
child in white? I tried several color schemes and they're all changed
from blue or red to white when highlighted.

Which color scheme are you using? (I find Brown Gradient easiest on my eyes)

There is probably a setting that I can't figure out ...

In order to move the child highlight in Grid List, I need to click a child.
While that does move the highlight it immediately moves that child to the
Husband or Wife spot. Similarly, a single click on one of the parents moves the
Parents to the Husband and Wife spots. And single clicking the Husband (or
Wife) opens it for editing.

Is there a single vs double click setting I'm missing? Or, how do you move the
highlight?

When you click on a child in either scrolling or the original view,
that does move the child to the focus spot.

You would scroll through the list to view the child you want to get
more info on. You can't edit in that list except by a right click and
selecting Edit - or by moving the child to focus.

The double-click option has been removed

So, how do you move the highlight in the children grid list (as you suggested
earlier) if clicking on that list gets you out of the list?

There is probably a setting that I can't figure out ...

In order to move the child highlight in Grid List, I need to click a child.
While that does move the highlight it immediately moves that child to the
Husband or Wife spot. Similarly, a single click on one of the parents moves
the Parents to the Husband and Wife spots. And single clicking the Husband
(or Wife) opens it for editing.

Is there a single vs double click setting I'm missing? Or, how do you move
 the highlight?

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy v8 - Highlighted colour

2013-12-18 Thread Sherry/Support
The highlight stays on the first child so the other children aren't a problem.

Interesting though because the names are all white for me and with my
vision issues I have no problem seeing the names through the blue
highlight.

I'm using default Brown Gradient colors and tested it with several
other color schemes, gradient and non-gradient, and they've all been
white.

If you're not seeing white fonts under the highlight, which color
scheme are you using? Do you have the latest build 8.0.0.366?

The comment about highlighting the item above or below the one you
want to read is a general tip when you're working in Windows and have
a highlighted row you want to view.

When a child is highlighted in the scrolling grid of children, the text, whether
originally red for females or blue for males, changes colour to white. This is
very easy to see against a blue background. Using the default(?) 'Windows 7
